Well duh. I saw humor in potentially heating the key right next to the cap, where vapors would be closest, and if everything isn't airtight...

I was thinking the same when I got my frame reinforcement plates. Not that I've even had them welded on yet, but I was just looking at placement and accessibility that my welder buddy would have to deal with, and there is that damn tank, right thar. Do we need to remove it , or just fill the tank up to displace as much vapor as possible and then pucker up while laying lots and lots of pretty beads...

I know someone who was doing welding on a motorcycle gas tank and had it blow on him.

A family friend of mine thought it was a good idea to use a lighter to thaw out his gas door and ended up with third degree burns all over both legs. So I'd also recommend not using a lighter near the has pump.

Well I dunno the right way to do it, but what I did worked. I did not drop the tank completely, just removed all the bolts and had it resting on a jack. Wrapped a wet towl as a blanket around the tank and slid the tank as far over as I could so I could wedge a 2x4 between the top of the frame and the tank. Got enough space to get the mig gun in. Not anywhere near my best work...but nobody's ever gonna see it.

You could weld the frame plates on the outside of the frame and it would probably work just as well and be safer when welding. Might look strange though.

They probably are the outside ones, usually the inners are called frame box plates. I welded my outer plates with the tank in place, just wrapped up the filler and covered any area sparks may fly with a wet towel, I had a towel on the lower part too but removed it for the pic

^ What he said. Frame is already boxed by the gas tank. It turns to c-channel right at the crossmember.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the difference will be on slow speed, snow/ice wheeling. Want to get a feel for how much less I'll spin with the rear locked.

Almost done prepping my calipers for paint. Any suggestions on getting in the tight spots?

The wire brushes for the drill are two big and the dremel isn't powerful enough to get the rust/crude off.

Replaced the junk shocks in my coil overs with new stock 4600 Bilsteins...Damn what a difference. Cranked the wheel all the way over, and snapped em in. 4 bolts each side, 1 floor jack, 30 minutes total. A lot easier than I expected! :D

At first skim I read that wrong and thought you said part of your install process was to turn the wheel all the way and "snap" them in. I was like  but then more
