Thanks for the update. Are you getting this 13 mpg or poor gas mileage year round now over two years later?

Well I just bought my 2012 reg cab 4x4 used with 10,000 miles on it. Certified pre owned from my local dealer. I've ran two tanks of gas threw it so far and I'm only getting 16/17 mpg out of it? I do not drive fast, oil fresh, air filter new! I don't no how some of you are getting what your claiming? Something wrong with my truck?

Don't no I thought it should be getting better to! Tiers pressure good, I've pretty much done everything that most of you have posted.

2nd tank I got 285 miles it took 16.4 gallons to fill it up. From E

That a pretty good commute, can't blame it on stop and go and short distance.

Where you at, what's the temp?

I get about 18-20 on highway trips right now. If I tear around Boston locally I do 15-16.

Yes still getting 13 and change around town, with daily driving. Now have 6,000 miles on it and had its first service from the dealer at 5,000 miles.

My trip to Bridgewater, MA (170mi) netted me 21 mpg. (topped the tank off at 7.88 gallons).

So long trips seem o.k. but driving around town is brutal. Definitely would be moving to a V6 next time. Not sure the 4 is worth it for me, personally, with my apparent driving conditions.

For city driving the last two days I'm averaging 16.92.....this is after removal for the secondary filter, premium gas at sunoco, K&N filter, tire pressure @ 30. It's better numbers then what I was getting that's for sure.

because 4cyl auto double cab tacomas are underpowered pieces of shit.

4th gear on the highway is useless, as soon as it shifts from 3rd to 4th it cannot hold speed, it will drop from 75 to 65. so to maintain the speed limit i have to have t in 3r gear at 75mph turning around 3500 rpm, and that kills milage.

I've only had mine on the freeway a couple of times and felt it could really use a 5th gear and you are downshifting to 4th? of course a hill around here is when you climb out of the swamp.

80-90% of my driving are short trips, 2 miles to work (up hill both ways) 5 miles to the school, numerous other short (2-10 mile) trips daily.
Once a week maybe 20-30 mile rural highway run. I'm managing to average 22mpg. Best milage comes on those rural highway runs with the cruise set on 52mph avg 28-30mpg. Keep rpms under 2000 if possible and ALWAYS use cruise even on those 2 mile trips. Get used to people in 18 year old rust buckets with no mufflers blowing by at 65mph or drive it like ya stole it and get 13-15mpg.

This thread might provide some interesting reading.

So you took a brick shaped pre-runner and lifted it 4 inches gave it a bro lean, making it more like a parachute, and you're surprised it can't hold 75.

when the speed limit is 75 i dont want to go any slower than that, and if im going down hill it will shift into 4th and the rpms will be around 2500. 4th on my truck is useless, i will rapidly slow down when it shifts no matter how much gas i give it.

I have the tab leaves in the rear along with the wheelers 3 leaf progressive pack with the overload left in. so it sits just about level. I blame the auto transmission

I think most guys in this thread lie about their mileage. I have a 2014 sport, cc, 4x4 6spd and i cant get over 14mpg. Im at 1500 miles on the clock. Ive drove hard on a couple tanks, and a couple tanks never breaking 2500 rpm, and still about 13.8mpg. You guys claiming 19mpg i call bs.
