Just got my new Spyderco Tenacious last week - plain edge black blade, G-10 scales, clip set for tip-up right-hand carry. Also picked up the Sharpmaker and some Ultra-Fine stones when I ordered it. It had a nice sharp factory edge out of the box, but I've now got it *hair-popping* sharp and it seems to keep that edge really well. My wife just rolls her eyes and smiles when she sees me snap it out for any and every little task that needs a blade of some sort. :D Next is to make a strop to get it that little bit sharper.

With the Sharpmaker, I've got all of our kitchen knives impressively sharp too - highly recommended for blade maintenance. As far as I've read, you don't need the coarse diamond stones for it unless you've got really messed up edges or you need to re-profile a blade. The medium stone (included) will get it done, but it'll take a lot more work.

    Cheers,
    Marc

I've been dropping this into my pocket every morning. My stepdad gave it to me before he passed. Old school. Kinda nice. Opens bagels and avocados just fine.

Something finer. :) They're white ceramics too, but with red tips on 'em. Sold individually though, so make sure you get two. You won't be disappointed.

I want to get a benchmade but the pricing is so insane. I really like their knives, but $200 is not something I easily spend.

I agee - coarse diamond rods don't make sense to me. At the very coarse end I use a medium whetstone, but almost never. Ceramic sticks do the bulk of my edge maintenance, then a leather strop with blue compound on it finishes it up.

I like that golok a lot, I knew I recognized the handle shape, but couldn't place it, I couldn't get fiddle back forge out of my head and I knew it wasn't them.

One of these days I'm gonna be in the market for a big chopper style blade like that (somewhere between chopper and machete), and the Bark River Golok is one of the ones I will be looking at, my other option will be a stormcrow bush sword, He is a maker over on blade forums.

also, has anyone heard about the recent TSA announcement about allowing knives on airlines again? they are small knives and still set to a lot of restrictions, but still, we'll be able to carry a small pocket knife on airlines like before 9/11 stuff like a case peanut and swiss army knife. I think the main restrictions are no lock back, lest than 6 cm (2.36 inches), less than .5 inches wide, can't be a fixed blade, and can't have "molded handles", which from the research that I have done basically means no finger grooves and what not, not like the molded plastic of the SAK

and Beavis0076, are you on blade forums?

Thanks for the look. One thing is for certain, as old as it is its still sharp enough to take the hair off your arm. Lol. And its never been resharpened at least in the 23 years I've had it.
