I really like the guardians. I have a lift on the way. When I need new tires, I will definately be looking hard at these wheels.
Shipping is gonna kill me tho, as usual...

Not to Hawaii. $271 for UPS ground just for the wheels.
I paid $345 for shipping on my lift kit. Would have been way more if I got the Dakar leaf pack...
The price we pay for living in paradise

Yeah, stock height. And yeah, I had to remove the front mudflaps, and trim some plastic behind them, and on the 2012-13s they have a little mudflap on the front bumper as well that I removed and I trimmed a little more plastic. And yes, they still rub on the rear of the front wheel well when I flex the suspension and I'm turned at about 30*. And they do rub some plastic on the rear when they're stuffed.

I had the same tires on my 07' double cab 4x4, but they were on stock sport wheels and they didn't rub at in the front wells, no matter how hard I tried. I did get a little plastic rub on the back at full stuff....very full stuff :D

As you can see in the pics in my previous post, they look great on the truck, no doubt about that, but I think a fair amount of the rubbing comes from the 8.5" wheel. A 17x8 w/ 4/5" backspace would've been perfect and not rubbed nearly as much.....but I couldn't find one I liked better than the Guardians......

Since 265/70/17 has essentially the same dimensions as my 265/75/16, my write-up will probably apply to you as well.
The key with Level 8 wheels is you will have no caliper clearance issues and they all look great.

This is 265/75/16 with Level 8 Trackers 16x8.5 Front mud flaps removed & 5100 set at 1.75.

For those of you who have the black guardians, where did you get your black lugs?

So the kit that gets auto added when I add the wheels to my cart, they will be black? I just want to make sure since the description I think said chrome.

    Thanks

I was doing some research on Level 8 wheels and found this thread. I'm interested in getting a set of Level 8 Strike 6 wheels for my 2012 4Runner Trail. I'll be keeping the Bridgestone stock tires (265/70-17) for now as I bought some winters in the fall and want to try to keep costs in check.

I've been sorting through info on offset and backspacing, etc., but I'm still not 100% clear on what issues might arise (e.g., rubbing or ride) by going with new wheels. The Level 8 Strike in the 17 inch is 9 inches wide (versus 7.5 for the stock wheel) and the offset is -12, if I've got that right. Will going as wide as 9 inches pose any potential problems? What about the offset?

The other option I'm considering is the Black Iron Outcast which is an 8.5 inch wide wheel with an offset of 18. I prefer the look of the Strike 6, though, because it is matte versus gloss.

I'd appreciate advice on whether I need to worry about issue from either of these wheels.

    Thanks!

if you enter your vehicle information at www.discountire.com, all of those wheels will fit your truck without rubbing the caliper. They will do a final physical fitment test when the mount (i.e. turn the wheel both ways with the tire. )

    Thanks for the input.

I'd be mail ordering the Level 8s (to Canada) so Discount wouldn't be installing them. That's why I want to try to get the best idea of fit before I order. The other wheels I'll source and have mounted by a local shop--I'm just not as keen on them.

Those wheels and tires look very nice on your truck, btw.

Discount told me" if they show they fit on our website, then they have been tested and are guaranteed to fit.". More than half our tacoma club down here run Level 8.
Check out the level 8 facebook page. Lots of good info & pics

Thanks. I found an excellent online comparison tool that allows you to enter your stock wheels and tires and compare them to whatever it is you want to put on. Along with the numbers it will tell you what your clearance is for suspension, fenders and wheelwells (e.g., a particular wheel and tire set might be .2 inches closer to suspension than OEM and have better clearance on the fender). Very neat and saves lots of pencil work. www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp (it's actually noted on quite a few threads on TacomaWorld).

Now I can at least get a really good sense of what it means to consider wheel X over Y without breaking my head over the numbers.

Lug kits are separate from the wheels. We carry chrome or black for lug kits.

Give us a call if you need to order a kit.
