OME 885, 5100's, LR UCA Topping out?!

I'm at 24" with 884's on a regular cab prerunner, aren't 885's a little longer but same spring rate?

 

i mean i have pretty big tires on it i think.. 265/70/17 BFG Rugged Terrain's on a 17x9 rim so spreads the tire out pretty good. theres a few people on here i've also seen that got a big lift out of nowhere with the 885's.. i think its strange too

Hub to fender measurement is not effected by tire size

Tomorrow I'm tearing it apart so when I do, I'll measure the center hub to bottom of the fender.

 

You don't have to rip it apart to measure that and I thought you said you did and it was 24" ?

 

Hahaha I'm so dumb that won't work because then my suspension wouldn't be compressed since its jacked up! My bad lol

 

But yeah it was about 24. Give or take 1/8th inch or so.

 

Do you have the rubber ring that goes between the spring and tophat? I can't tell if yours is there. Mine kinda laps over and is easy to see.

If it is not there you will have noise from the spring rubbing on the stud bolts.

It is a long shot but, did you have your springs installed at a shop? Did they use an impact to tighten the top plate spacer down?

If so and they spun the shaft of the shock, they could have damaged the strut. I remember reading that you are not supposed to use an impact to put on the nut and that is can damage the strut.

 

I have 885 with nitros. Same speed bump clunk. Weight down the front and the clunk reduces or goes away. The 885 is meant to counter the weight of ARB bumper. I read that on the ome/arb Australian site. When you jack the truck I bet your wheel hardly drops any before tires are off the ground. Same thing happens on bumps only faster. Slamming to full extension. That's what I think it was on mine anyway.

 

how about trying a set of limit straps?

 

I thought 885s were for 0-100lbs extra weight and 886s are for 100lbs+. Ive never had the when goes over speed bump clank, but i do think my sway bar hit my coil once when i was wheeling. I still have close to 2" of downtravel with 885s and nitrochargers. I have a little added weight tho from my sliders. I agree tho about the shock reaching full extension, when all other factors are rulled out it seems like that is the most logical reason the clank happens.

 

my first gen did this same thing you guys are describing, and it was because my shock was almost all the way extended. hitting a speed bump would make the tire come off the ground easy and fast, kind of causing "speed bump clank"

 

886's are for an ARB and winch

 

Easy check. Get 2 or 3 passengers in the cab. Then see if you notice an improvement on speed bumps. Heavy people are great for testing suspensions.
