Well im new to the forum, but have had my tacoma almost a year now, and with 16500, im fed up with the rugged trail t/a's, what a junk tire, i think they wet themselves at the sight of mud or snow.... need 4x4 to get moving on a slight incline last weekend..... so now i did my taxes and seen what im getting back from uncle sam, i started looking at tires, and my head started spinning, but seen many good things about the duratrac's, so think im heading that direction, but they dont seem to come in the stock 265/70/r16 that came on my off road package..... what should i go with???? and still keep my stock rims since i am on a budget, next, i do pull a snowmobile trailer in the winter months, my one with the sled is about 800lbs total, so not heavy at all, my other trailer which is a round tirp of 800 miles is about 4,000lbs with about a tounge weight of 800 lbs pulls all the gear in the truck, pulled it fine back in feb, but i hated my stock rubber, it was like being on roller skates on snow, i would like to maybe do a small lift, but looking at the posts, im getting a headache now, what kit would you guys recommend that i can put on, but still be able to pull both my trailers without problems???? and how much am i looking at, 3rd off, i want a brush bar being i have hit one deer with a saturn vue before, and i want something to help with a beating if, i hope it dont, happen again, plus be nice to add some extra lights on it for idiots with high beams, and them dark nights in the middle of no where... what brand is decent for looks and price?

i listed them off in priority as the stock rubber, i will probably run until fall and have a fun time of burning the rubber off, but im looking at around a $1500 budget right now ($1200 is tax money, right now, real slow at work, so not much extra money laying around till we pick up and get back on overtime), and for the ones who answer around wny, whats a good place to do this as i dont have access to many shop tools to do a lift kit if i get one, otherwise, i love my truck, gets great mpg on 93 octane (19mpg right now with using the remote start every night at work, 21-23mpg summer time, and down to 16-17 when driving it like a race car, lol)

you can get duratracs in 265 75 16, or another tire obviously.

you can get a set of tires and 5100s for under 1000. then if you cant install them, it should only cost >200, so theres your 1200 limit :)

will the tires clear the factory flaps and not rub? im not against going over budget, hence why i put up 1500, if anything like my snowmobile, what started out as an 1800 budget, has turned into a 2800 so far spent, and still more to go, lol

they wont rub :) plus the 5100s will add a few inches to the front and level you out for a little more clearance.

i dont have a grill guard myself but i think theres a company that makes one for about 300 +-, so even that would be you 1500+- which isnt bad for 3 new additions to the truck!

of course. tpms is over rated. people should check their tires anyways instead of relying on a computer to do it for you :)

duratracs are a great tire! they do very well in snow/slush. i was a huge fan of bfg a/t's but then picked up a set of duratracs and have been extremely impressed.

glad to hear, toyota should be shot for putting on them rugged trails, ive be completely sideways on a road with a truck coming from hitting a small bit of snow, while pulling a trailer, i had to wipe after that one! and going on my snowmobile trip, there was some slush on the roads after our huge snow storm, i couldnt keep my truck under control to save my butt till the roads dried up

im not sure you can 'disable' it, if you get new rims although you'll throw the code, and you can take it to the dealer and they should be able to reset it/add tpms for a ridiculous fee, or you can be cheap and put a piece of tape over it on the dash, thats what i did lol.

If you don't like the TPMS light you can put the factory sensors in a pressurized plastic vessel under the back seat , the truck will still register them

hmmmm i like that idea, so the factory ones are just clipped or glued to the inside of my rims im going to guess, now, as much as i didnt want to swap rims, im liking the scs rims more and more, could i just put the factory sensors from my stockers into them, or just buy new ones, or how should i put this, the most economical way to do this without having to eat ramen noodles for the next year?

ok, that makes perfect sense on how to do it now, that never crossed my mind, i was thinking to myself, how in the heck do you do that, so, so far, i learned i can do the 265/75/r16 on my stock off road rims.... or.... should i do 16 scs or go up to 17 scs rims? but then, what about my speedo, kinda like to keep that in reason for speed

Your dealership can actually reprogram you tpms. I picked up a 2013 the other day and the dealership had pre-installed a 3 inch lift and 33's on American Racing 16 inch wheels. I got a sheet showing that the dealer had installed the lift and reprogramed the ECU to work with the new tires and wheels.

rim size is personal preference, personally i'm not a fan of the larger rims on the tacoma's.
my sister 2nd gen sport has 17's and they look a tiny bit big.

What brand lift kit? Any pics of it. That sounds to be about what I want. I like my size rims. But the 17's to me do look great also.... Gah I can't sleep. I got too many ideas in my head now.

Sorry. Yes I was referring to you. Did they lift the rear also? Think I was reading last night that people where doing 3" up front and 1.5" in the rear, if you don't mind me asking. How much did the dealership bang you for the lift kit. And how much for the rims? Thanks
