That sucks. Washed my truck Monday and finished spray detailing it in my garage. When I went to put the stuff up I heard a noise and found that a large piece of sheet rock fell on my hood. Got some new scratches and a little dimple dent. Dont think the scratches will come out.

I work in the industry. Almost ALL consumer electronic printed circuit boards are soldered this way nowadays. The problem with our display is that this circuit wasn't quite balanced just right. The resistors needed to be rated a tad higher for wattage and we would have never seen this issue. As they are they get too hot and basically un-solder themselves. A good coating of solder along each side aids in cooling and gives it renewed strength. At least it is a pretty cheap easy fix.

45longColt - what wattage resistor would you recommend on the temp gauge to solve the problem? I'm getting tired of redoing mine every six months.

Check out post #742. After this post if you keep searching there are actual photos that show these Radio Shack resistors mounted instead of the flat SMD ones. Some that used these say 1/4 watt works but 1/2 watt ones are even better, just a tighter squeeze mounting them.
