No. He's just noticing there was a recal and he missed it by 40 days because Toyota didnt send out letters to NC, despite the curious geographic formations call mountains...

My truck was from up North for about 6 years of it's life, but since it's now registered in Texas and I'm living in Missouri I can't get it checked.

 

That doesnt sound right. IIRC, the extended warranty is for all trucks in all states. They only send letters and do the frame coating for trucks in "Cold Weather States."

 

I don't know, I looked up my vin and it said that only certain states are now allowed in the recall. I'm sure my frame is fine, but I'd like to get it checked out anyways.

 

Ever since there was a Toyota Motor Company, ALL of their vehicles were rust buckets. Only in recent years has this improved. Cars are made of steel. Steel rusts. Live with it.

I got that. I meant how does ones spring mount rust that badly without being noticed prior to failure.

 

I just recently bought a 2000 tacoma in MD a notoriously salty state and it had almost no rust thankfully. I still took it to a dealership to have the frame checked out and they said it wasnt eligible for the frame recall even if it was rusted out. Does that seem right?

 

You have somewhat of a point.

Every other brand vehicle has just as many issues with rust in states that salt the roadways. I have seen just as many ford, chevy's, dodges, and nissans with rusted out frames and bodies due to winter roads and road salt.

Toyota is just one of the only ones that gives a rats ass, and is making things right for the owners of these trucks.

Take an older Ford ranger to ford with a rusted out frame demanding action...and they will laugh your ass right out of the dealership. And they will tell you that its normal.


I am just happy I live in Florida (non-coastal) and I have zero rust on my truck.

they sent letters to original owners(like me)and unless you live in a cave,how could you not have heard about the frame recall? and anyway,i would not have considered the rust on my frame toyota's fault entierly.i live in western new york and the winters here are nasty and so is the road salt.i bought my truck new in 2004 and drove it every winter in all that salt and definatly did not wash it as often as one should under those condition.they still gave me a new frame,brake lines,leaf springs,so i am extremely satisfied with my frame replacement.

 

Well, I'm caught in the middle for my '01 (4x4, Ext. cab, 3.4l V6, US spec). Came from NY state, imported to Canada in '03 (as per CARFAX) and I'm the 4-5 owner since. Called Toyota USA and they are saying basically that I didn't have the vehicle registered in the DMV (that's how Toyota USA got a hold of owners apparently) as of '03 so I didn't get the notice and therefore, since recall is done, I'm done! So, talked to Toyota Canada and they basically said that they only deal with Canadian truck warranties and that the dealers sort out recalls (which the dealers here have apparently no access to the US database of recalls -BS!). Sorta sucks!
Had the truck since May '11 and was okay-ed by the mech when I bought it. My mech and fabricator said that the frame is so rusty now that it would be like welding paper. Everything else is fine on it (even with about 298,000kms/187,000mi), it's just the frame. Anyone out there know of a frame that can help me save my Taco? Please!?!?

 

I don't think this is officially a recall, but if you take your truck to your local dealer and ask them to do a frame inspection, they should handle getting the frame replaced for you at no charge to you... Go to your local dealers (may have to go to more than one) and get a free inspection done... Make sure to mention that Toyota is supposed to replace rusted out frames...

 

Hu I bought my 03 4x4 taco and they never notifyed me about my balljoint recall i asked about the frame and they said it wasn,t covered.If the original owner ignores the recall wich is what happend with mine then it is for u to find .Go to toyotaowners.com and punch in the numbers and see whats there.I learned of this recall on HERE

I'm worried that there will be no "free" inspection though and that it will cost, say $100-$135, each time I do one. That's the going rate/hr for mechs around here at the dealership. In the end, "if" I finally get someone to help, it might be worth it. The local dealership in town sux; there's one about 1hr away that I might try this weekend or next. In the meantime, I'm still searching for a frame. Anyone know if a '95-'00 frame fits the '01-'04 bodies? Getting desperate.....

 

My local Toyota dealers didn't charge me anything, they even did a few other tests and turned out I had a bad battery, so I had them replace that, but they didn't try to push a bunch of services on me...
