Just wondering how everyone gets their dogs around town with the Tacoma? Anyone ridden in the back with a topper /cap? I'm wondering how loud it is. Pics are welcome, of course!

i had a camper shell and my 2 dogs freaked out in the back and busted out the glass, if it's a small dog or a calm dog, dont be worried abou it. but if you have dogs that cant be away from you, i'd get a crate or box.

I could have sworn there was a recent thread on this so i searched, suprised there is so many threads on the topic. I have a universal seat cover from duluth trading co for my dogs. Waterproof, protects the seats and keeps them in back, i think its called scouts seat saver by duluth trading co

I use a crate with one tie down strap when Im transporting or traveling with my dogs. Its honestly the safest way to travel with them. In the cab they are a projectile unless you have a harness with a seat belt attachment, and just sitting in the bed even with a cap is still just as dangerous(god forbid you ever get in an accident).

The pic attached is how we do it with my Frontier(Short bed). If Im traveling a bit further, I actually tie down strap the crate down with more than one strap just in case anything would happen so I know the crate wont launch out.

I have a cap. On short runs with no gear I don't use a crate. When I travel I crate them to keep them out of my food and gear. They will eat anything.

Mine go under the shell. Before I got my shell, they were put in a crate that was tied down.

Trust me, crate is the ONLY safe way to transport your dog. (K-9 search and rescue)

Whatever you do do NOT ever transport a dog running loose or even tied in the bed. Its actually illegal in most areas and just plain abusive. Oh and keep in mind it gets hot as shit back there in the summer.

The debris from the road can destroy their vision and in some cases render them blind.

Here's how I get my lab around:
It's just a layer of indoor/outdoor carpet hooked on the plastic hooks behind the rear seats and the seat head cushions hold the front in place. I usually fold the other seat forward so he can't run side to side and has to stay on the carpeted side. The best part is, the carpet folds up, flip the seat back and people can sit back there without getting covered in fur. When the cab is full of people, I'll put his crate in the bed (I have a shell) and let him ride back there. He seems to like the back seat much better though because he likes to hang his head out the window (what dog doesn't?).

x2...ALWAYS. We've got in total approx 100lbs of hounds (a 22lb Westie and a 77lb Shep) and they always ride in the access cab with my wife and I. They'd be miserable if they were kept away from us.
