i did, i think, thats what the diagram said it was.
is it supposed to retract? i think it may be stuck open.
this is before i cleaned it, after i shot it with carb cleaner it was nice and shiny, but the tip never moved.

It normally sits about halfway out, and when you turn the key to the ON position it wants to recalibrate by extending the plunger first, careful if you do this not bolted in, as the plunger can completely come off the end since it is a screw type mechanism with no internal stops).

But short answer is yes it should move, try cleaning it with some brake clean when its unplugged and blow it out with compressed air, then put a couple drops of engine oil (I actually use synthetic trans oil, but use any oil) on it where it moves.

Test it with an ohmeter first to see if it has resistance before anything to make sure its not just a paper weight..

I'm thinkin a LOT of rev limit love. Could almost call that rev limit porn...

So being the inexperienced and impatient teenager that I am, I pulled it off, plugged it in, and told the computer to recalibrate the plunger, well it popped up (and almost out), is there a way to get it back shorter after I oil it tomorrow? Do I just try to hold the plunger down while someone tells the computer to recalibrate the valve?

Yes there is, you will need to apply 12v DC to the connector, depending on your polarity (pos vs neg) it will go back in, you can just use some wire from your battery. Just touch it for a millisecond to make sure you have it connected right..otherwise it will goo all the way out.

cool, i forgot you can reverse the polarity on electric motors.
i ran it after i screwed it up and it won't idle at all, but it runs better, it'll smoothly accelerate to 2nd gear once i hit 10 mph, i don't have room to get above 25 mph though.

    here it is extended.

yeah just hit it with 12v to bring it back in to reinstall it, also clean the hole where the plunger seats to make sure it gets a good seal.

You retracted it and it doesnt run right now?

nope, it's put back together with it stuck open.
i cooked supper tonight so i didn't have a lot of time to fool with it, and it's 9:15 so it's a bit late to work on it without having a garage or shop.
but tomorrow i'll pull it apart, oil it, clean the hole and put it back together and see how it runs.

we pulled the air pump and not the rest of the smog stuff, do we need to plug the hole air tight or just duck tape it?

    Oh, your in Miss...

the only hole you need to seal is the exhaust manifold and anything coming from the intake manifold.

ok, since the air pump took exhaust directly to the cats to heat them up faster i should plug up the hose. right?
