There is plenty of clearance in the tunnel now. I used a strap to pull the tunnel open. I watched the stick shake and vibrate out of gear when I let off the gas. I pulled the boot off and no more vibrating out of gear, so I need to mess with the detent spring. It shifts out of gear too easily.

Definately check that detent ball and spring. If they are the stock springs you should change them out with a set from TG or Marlin.

Injected the driveshaft, shackle bolts, UCA bushings with some grease this afternoon. Lubed the UCA and trac bar uniballs. Complemented the electrical repair kit with a full set of spare fuses. Giving the air filter a wash now. Spare parts and tools are onboard.

    Ready for a little fun?

Thanks for the advice fellas. I spoke with Dave and he does not feel a HD spring is needed and will only make shifting harder. Well I don't understand this because my shifter is popping out more than Slimwood's pecker. I am pretty certain I need the HD spring.

I have to drop the drivetrain to reach the spring :(. 10 hour work days and long nights working on this truck have taken its toll, I am just too damn tired to fuck with it right now.

Fuck it. Just hold the shifter in place while you drive.

You need to do something in there to keep your hands off your dick anyway

(Dave may be forgetting that your detent spring is fighting two cases worth of shift forks)

u cant get to it at all while its still installed? with how much u cut out the tunnel, u might be able to get to it from teh top. but def, get to it under neat. i think from lookin at the pics of it out of the 4runner, it looks like the screw right behind the shift linkage on the pass side. thats basically where it is on the fj case just on the other side. i would try to get to it with everything installed before dropping it all

Ah shit, you're right. I went back and looked at the pics. I thought twins were linked to both.

Perhaps the extra linkage is providing extra resistance? God knows those upgraded springs are out there for a reason. Something's pushing his stick around, and...well, it's not his hand/girlfriend.

Well I went out and messed with it anyway, I got the spring out with less trouble than I planned. I stretched and reinstalled the spring, the 2wd/4wd shifter moved nice and solid, the hi/low shifter didn't move at all, and now neither will move. I can shift the 2wd/4wd rail with a screwdriver with the shifters removed but the hi/low rail won't move. :censored::frusty: I don't know what is wrong. I should have just became a coin collector.

...This sounds like something is fucked/broken internally. You sure those things arrived in proper condition?

Okay I am a fucking idiot. I released the e-brake and took it out of gear. I had to slap myself for that one.

I couldn't tell if there are 2 springs in there :notsure:. I pulled one out with a magnet and stretched it but it still pops out of gear :(. It doesn't seem as bad though. I ordered 2 Marlin springs.

on ours the hd spring we get actually fits inside the stock spring. more than likely u only had one spring anyways. im not sure if the gear driven cases use the same hd spring as the tacoma/fj chain cases do. there are 2 different springs on marlin's website for you to buy so i would say they are different
