I eventually got them out and cleaned out and new bushings pressed in. Took using c clamp to hold the arm to a metal work bench and a fairly large pry bar then a wire cup on an air drill to get all the old rubber off. I will say it is a PITA why would Toyota use metal washers pressed on a sleeve that need to get removed to replace the bushings? It seems like they didn't want you to reuse that sleeve but you can't buy one anywhere that I could find

On another note got my tie rods upper and lower ball joints and upper and lower control arm bushings and new rack and pinion installed took me 2 days but that's only because I didn't have the right tools for pressing ball joints or bushings but I did figure out some fun ways to do it :)

    More details?

How much play in your old bushings did you have?

    Any pics of the process?

And what replacement bushings did you use?

I have discovered some slight play in one of the driver side lca bushings...not lots of slop, just some play and you really had to tug on it. I am dreading replacing them.

Got back from my first long-ish(100 miles) highway trip of the year a few hours ago. When I parked I smelled burning oil. Couldn't notice anything so I went inside and had dinner. Just went back out and saw an 8" diameter pool of oil beneath the truck. Couldn't see any leak when looking down from the engine bay. Crawled underneath and it looks like it's either coming from my passenger side inner CV, right where it meets the differential, or from above that somewhere...Oil is sprayed all over the exhaust as it exits the engine compartment, and it's also on the front cross member of the frame. So it must have been leaking pretty good while I was driving. Which makes me think it's CV/differential related. I took a few pics but they are really crappy.

That's looking up from the passenger side CV, closest to the diff.

Whoa, me too...It's sprayed on the exhaust and front frame crossmember as well...My engine oil is right where it should be as well...

hmmm. How bad is it to continue driving? I have work off tomorrow but I doubt anyone will have an opening to fix it tomorrow. If that's the case I gotta drive it for at least a few more days before getting it fixed. Oh and btw, it looks just like engine oil. I don't know if differential oil looks the same or not. I've changed the rear diff oil before but didn't notice what the new stuff looked like, only the burnt up old stuff

    Yep.

try undoing your diff breather in the engine bay. Check to see if it needs replaced or cleaned. sometimes if its clogged the diff will just start pushing oil out of the seals.

If it still leaks in a week or so..

Gonna have to replace it

Good tip, I'll do that and see whats up. Is it difficult to replace? I've never dealt with anything CV related.

Well, seeing as how you built basically a brand new truck, I guess that's a bad question to ask you haha. I'll look into it and see if I'd rather pay someone to do it. Most likely I will pay

Mine where so bad that once i got the arm off i could just pull the sleeve/old bushing out, except what was stuck to the metal. I didn't get a chance to take any pics because my neighbor saw me struggling, so i took the arms over to his place and we figured everything out there. i didn't take my phone with me. but honestly its really not bad if you have the right tools(a vise a decent pry bar and a big sledge hammer), the hardest part was getting that washer pressed back onto the sleeve. that's where the big sledge came into play, used a socket that fit just around the sleeve and gave it a couple good hits to get it back on around the lip, that is on the washer that is supposed to go into the groove that it came out of.

Oh god this is so exciting. Not only did I wash my truck, but I used Back to Black on my fender flares (not because it is awesome, but because now that I have it so I might as well use it up) and polished my headlights with Maguire's Plastic X. Which works quite nicely. Bitches.
