Looks like the end of my Montana road trip will take me to Wyoming, but I will not be attending your trip Monte. Instead I'll be headed to Jackson to do some packrafting on a few different rivers/creeks in the area

What dates will you guys be in Lander?

Yes you do want one, they are tremendously fun! Meet up with me in Jackson and we can do some packrafting. I'll have both my packrafts with me, but there is also a packraft rental company in Jackson.

Wy you have to have a permit i believe for a concealed on your person. Other then that you can have it just about anywhere really. Even in Yellowstone now.

    How do you know that?

You can, I think, as long as you don't bring it into a federal building. That covers visitor centers and even maintenance shops owned by the feds.

yeah, well if you read closely you can carry a gun but you can't discharge a gun within the park. that is still prohibited. they still encourage people to carry bear spray for defense and not rely on guns.

Pretty much takes away the point of having a gun in the park, eh?

This is controversial, but I don't put much stock in bear spray. I've had trainings in it, and sprayed training units, and you have to be VERY close for it to be effective.

Pretty much. I guess you could always pistol whip a bear but I don't think the outcome would be favorable. :notsure:

I've taken bear aware classes - got to play with fake bear spray (it had all of the ingredients except the capsaicin - and learn how to keep a clean camp, etc. I think they recommended using it only if the bear was within a 10 yard radius of you. That's pretty damn close!
