Hey guys, my Tacoma has the backup Camera, so I have to take that into consideration when looking at my options for adding a lock to my tailgate. I did a forum search, but most of the topics were related to powered tailgate locks. I am just interested in a manual locking tailgate that you unlock with a key. The problem I see is that the ones I've found require moving the Camera to the left side of the handle, which throws off the lines that you use to guide the truck with when backing up. Are there any quality options that do not require relocating the Camera from the right side factory location? Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.

I changed mine out and have not found the moving of the lines to be an issue at all. Pop and lock 5300 is what I installed. I think it might be a better view then the OEM location. FWIW

Claymore is right - no issues. The few inches that the Pop n Lock moves the camera has no impact on it's effectiveness.

Is that the powered tailgate lock though, or do they have a manual option that unlocks with a key too?

How is the quality and durability? I've read mixed reviews online. Is that the only option for this application?

I have had it for several months with no problems. It feels well built. Maybe someone else that has had one longer could chime in. The only other model I know of is the electric one. I was worried about a failure and not being able to get in. The key doesnt bother me. I remember seeing some other brands, but chose the pop and lock.

    Try this

I had one for over 2-1/2 years on my 2010 - no problems. I shot some white lithium grease on it when I was installing it, and give it a shot in the keyhole before the weather gets cold.

I'm on my third Tacoma, and have installed Pop n Locks on all of them - can't say much more about them.

no issues here with the 5300 and camera location. had it about a year. honestly, it almost feels better built than the stock handle.

I've had the non-camera version on my '08 for over a year and it's rock solid.

For what its worth I've had a PL5300 on my truck for about 3 years and the thing is falling apart, has been for some time now. It's faded, a large crack has developed for whatever reason and about half the time when I go to open the tailgate, the handle disengages from the internal opening mechanism. I end up having to lock and unlock the tailgate to get the internals to sync up again. Pain in the ass. I don’t abuse my tailgate or repeatedly open and close it so I have no idea why this thing has fallen apart the way it has. I really need to replace it but I have my Kenwood camera in there and would need to come up with another mounting location if I go back to stock.

So mine is a complete piece of crap but it seems to be the exception.
