Back when i lives in gainesville i used to frequent lochloosa near Hawthorne. Nothing real difficult, some sugar sand you need to be aware of. But it's nice around the make and just exploring around there.

    Been there ^
Gotta be careful out there .. Most of the so called "state/public" land ...is actually private leased hunting club .. With little/no signs telling you such ... One wrong turn and your on private lease , subject to a steep fine

Yeah there are a few hunt camps in the immediate area. Especially more north on country rd 335. Still some decent scenary and a very accessible area.

There is a place in Starke that host off road events that have everything from mud to rock climbing and my stock height tacoma got through everything there. Normally its a company that trains military contractors how to drive off road. It's at gorally.com and hosted by the international security academy. Heres a short video of it.

Really the only place to go is Eglin Air Force reservation. I've been a few times, still trying to find the good spots.

Too bad it isn't closer... That's over 6 hours from me. It would definitely be a weekend trip if anything.
