It's about an 8 hour drive, correct?

That's some hard-core mall crawling. Did anyone get stuck?

Hey, NM crowd....my wife and I are toying with moving out your way. We have horses, and land over here (FL coast) is getting ridiculous (expect to pay $20k per acre of cleared land). I used to work for Intel in Oregon, was thinking about checking the ABQ campus to see if they'd want me back. Anyway, was wanting to find out a little about land availability out your way, and how you like it out there. We were thinking about the corridor between ABQ and Santa Fe. Looks like room to stretch out, horseback ride, and off-road....provided we can afford pasture land/house/water...

That'll be a breeze. So I guess we should figure out who all is planning on driving up together, exchange some phone #'s, and pick a meetup spot.

I'd look into the situation with Intel first. I have a couple family members that work over there, and from what I hear, they're scaling back their operation and offering early retirement packages to folks.

Between ABQ and SF you're going to have pretty much one Indian Reservation after another from I-25 west to the Rio Grande. East of I-25 I believe there is some public land, but it's dry out there and undeveloped so the cost to run power and sink a well might be prohibitive. West of SF you've got national forest between the city and the Rio, same situation to the east.

I'd say your best bets would be Placitas, but there are water issues up there as well (water is deep, and the ground is rock, so drilling wells is $$$), and you can expect to pay some $$$ for any flat ground (lots of hilly terrain). I'm sure you can find land out on N. Hwy 14, and I wouldn't rule out Edgewood & the east mountains if you're willing to make a drive. You can get land on the cheap out there, and there are some really nice spreads if you've got the cash.

Got Silas' CB TX/RX unit installed tonight. Still have to install the antenna and tune it but got the cable run. I'll get some nice pics done up when we finish it.

I enjoyed the drive at 4am last year. I love driving when the sun is coming up, its second to the joy I get driving at night when its raining.

We drove through Moab just after the sun came up yesterday. But that was after having been on the road for about 19 hours already. Made it a bit less awesome.
