Stock for stock on 1st gens auto vs manual in 1st gear with 4.10's in 4Lo, the manuals are geared almost 37% lower than the auto.

The manuals 2nd gear is closer to the autos 1st gear than the manuals 1st gear is.

Yeah. I was surprised when I saw that number. I checked two more sites just to make sure that was correct. haha

For kicks I just checked the numbers and you manual guys with 4.10's are getting lower than Silas with his 5.29's! haha

1st gear in 4Lo is 35.80:1 for the manual and 33.77:1 for Silas. haha

yeah. I'll bet the 5.29's rock for crawling but probably suck on the highway. 5spd overdrive is 0.85:1 and the 4 spd auto's is 0.70:1.

That is one of the reasons why I think it would be really cool to swap in the Tundra's 6spd auto. My overdrive is 0.72:1 which is the same as their 1st overdrive gear and their 2nd overdrive gear is 0.55:1. With that kind of an overdrive ratio I could do an SAS and run like 6.50's in the diff and still have great RPM's at 75mph.

    Mike's final drive ratio in 2Hi is 3.46:1 and Jon's is 4.44:1.

If they are both on 33's and doing 75 mph, Mike would be at about 2650 rpm and Jon at about 3400rpm.

But when crawling Mike has a crawl ratio of 31.15:1 and Jon's is 46.19:1.
So again both on 33's Mike would redline that at 19mph while John would be at 13mph.
Or coasting down a really steep hill at 3000rpm Mike would be doing about 9mph and John 6mph. I know that seems like a small change but it is the difference between using your brakes vs just letting the engine hold you back for me.

EDIT: Damn that took me like 7 minutes to do and I had a calculator to do all the work for me. haha

Didn't realize it was that much different but I have driven both a manual 1st gen and my auto 1st gen so I know first hand how much nicer the manuals are to drive on the downhill slopes.

I love my truck and will never ever get rid of it but (knowing what I know now thanks to TW  ) if I could go back in time I would have waited for a manual TRD to come my way. I just got all excited when I found a local, one owner, 27k on the ODO Tacoma and was all :goingcrazy: Gimme, gimme, gimme!!!!

I have a real job people. what's the big deal about that?

I'm planning to make it in August, but with so many things in my life, it is possible that I would have to cancel. But not without some serious effort, I need some more pictures! :D
