Working from home today.

 

Washing machine took a dump over the weekend. Did some googling, there are two things it could be. Either shocks or bearing assembly on back of the front loading drum. Shocks are $35 each, bearing assembly is ~$300, guess which one is broken...

Sucks, I'll have to use my Rausch Creek monies to fix it or get a new one. I'll likely just pony up and get a new one. At the Sears outlet up on RT. 20 in Shrewsbury new scratch and dent models aren't much more than the cost of the damn bearing assembly. Sometimes I feel like home ownership is the biggest troll of all.

 

Seth I just had a similar issue and you are better off going new. I checked on the bearing and it is not replaceable (atleast on mine). Spoke with parts guy and he said you had to get a new drum. Also said since I had gotten 7 years out of it that was more then expected. I had replaced the shocks and the control module previously

 

Thanks for the reassurance. I hate buying new when I can fix it, but for the cost difference it doesn't seem worth it. Mine is the same way, not replaceable. Didn't even look that hard to replace it all when I had the machine apart yesterday either. But, it is 9 years old so it's probably time.

Jeez, they just don't make things to last anymore. Scratch and dent is the shit, who cares what it looks like...my washer/dryer stay in my basement and I'm the only human who ever sees them.

And you're not kidding it is..although my worst one was not a week after getting my tax return in January 2008, my furnace died. Nearly five grand and 2 weeks without heat.

 

I suggested justice of the peace. No go there. Wants fairytale wedding etc...
