I've been to Tacoma world alot before but just recently joined, pretty stoked about it! I've got a 2010 silver Tacoma sport with a 3 inch lift, 18" rims and 32's There's alot of mods I'm wanting to still do. I just painted my badges orange and next on the list is plasti dip the top of my cab. And I can't decide if it'd look good to do the hood with it. Anyone know where I can get my hands on some plasti dip and how hard its going to be?

I just finished doing my badges and hood scoop insert this weekend. I am going to be doing the roof in the next couple of days. You can buy a can of Plasti dip at Home Depot. I think it was about 8 dollars. 1 can should do your roof with no issues.

Oh god.... Put your flame suit on. There are a lot of people on here that despise Plasti Dip (I'm not one of them). You can get a rattle can at Home Depot but for a project that large just go to their website and order the kit.

You just gonna tape off your windows and what not? Or do you not worry about it?

Yes tape it off. You dont have to be perfect. Any overspray can be wiped off with a spray polish or window cleaner.

Clean with warm soapy water, light initial spray, wait 5 minutes, a heavier coat, wait 1 hour (despite what the can says) between coats there after. Do not touch for 24 hours and KEEP IT OUT OF THE SUN THE ENTIRE TIME. Pretty simple & requires no real prep work.

I did my grill surround, rear bumper, badges (all originally chrome), and stock steel wheels in one evening. I just washed it, dried it, and taped off a little to avoid over spray (except on wheels). I think I used 5 or 6 cans

Few tips - wipe the nozzle off before and after each coat, otherwise it will come out real shitty. At least it did for me. I also did a "test spray" on a piece of newspaper to make sure it didn't come out really chunky.

Also, i didn't have the patience to wait for each coat to dry and it was pretty cold when i did it, so i used a hairdryer to dry each coat. Only took a minute or two. Mine turned out really good.

I did mine on Halloween last year and it's still holding up.

I tried to black out my third brake light... it looked like shit, so i peeled it off.

Again, it was cold, so i did it in a closed garage. If you do the same, wear a respirator.

    I'll upload some pics.

I can just imagine a sheet of plastidip on the side of the road. . . .

    "whats that?"
"I dunno, must be from that guy that did his roof with plastidip"

the stuff is not revolutionary, it is magical to some beause it DOESN'T stick to surfaces. might as well just shovel mud up there and call it good

Thank you! That helps alot! I would paint it but like everyone else mentioned it comes off easy so if I don't like it than I take it off. I guess ill just have to play it by ear see how she turns out!

Did you plastidip the TACO emblems while on the truck?? I wanna do my wheels, and those emblems, but thought I would have to remove first

I think taking them off would be way easier and the result would be better than having to do all that taping off.

I seriously dont know what this dude was doing wrong but i derped my rear bumper and had zero problems. I found it extremely easy and bonded great. After 6 months still looks just as good as the day i did it. Had my doubts when i first decided to do it but this stuff has far exceded my expectations. Love the derp!

Don't bother removing the emblems, it's more work than it's worth. You can YouTube a video of how to plastidip emblems. basically you just frame around the emblem and paint. Peel off excess around it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370211826.307797.jpg

Just did my wheels and emblems yesterday and it looks good. So the next step is wait a year or two when it wears off and paint it. The good thing about the plasti is if you don't like it just peel it off.

Leave the badges on, exactly like jarhead said, just tape off a frame around it (i left about 2"-3" on each side) and spray on. Do 4 or 5 coats. I used a tooth pick to get the dip out of the middle of the "A" and the "O"

It's super easy. for the wheels, I taped the backside, just because i was in a hurry and didn't feel like cleaning the inside of the wheels. I took them off because it was a lot easier to tape and didn't want to get any dip on the caliper or rotor.

Just do it man, if it looks like shit, peel it off and try again.
