I have only owned my Tacoma for about 5 months. I already have a lot of scratches. My theory is the truck is too wide. Is it worth fixing or is it all down hill from here?

It's a truck. If it doesn't have some wear and tear you're not using it to its ability.

5 months...try 7 years...and that is why I bought a white truck. Scratches hardly show. You have a dark colored vehicle so naturally scratches will show up easier. If you don't want scratches, don't take it off the pavement.

You can't see it in this picture but there is a fist sized dent in the passenger door.

If you are that worried about it, get some polish and get them out.

I plan to continue driving it through some of the toughest roads in WY. I just hate seeing them and not knowing exactly what I did. I am assuming its from brushing up against pine trees. Which is why I mention that the truck is too wide. Do all vehicle's scratch this easy? I never took my camry off road. I don't want to imagine what it will look like in 10 years. Maybe badass?

You can scratch your paint by rubbing your finger on it, so yeah, pine trees are going to mess with it...

Get a vinyl wrap for it if you're really concerned about it. That or don't wheel it.

Dude...shit happens. You can't keep anything perfect. As you get older you'll discover its not worth worrying about. Scratches, dents, 'stuff' will happened.

Idk scratches are inevitable but you can do your best to avoid and remove them.

I only have a small surface scratch on the back of my tailgate. It can be buffed out, I am just too lazy to worry about it right now. I will do it before winter gets here, that won't be long of course. When I owned cars I would do anything I could to avoid any type of damage. Since that I drive a truck, I am less concerned about it. Trucks are made to get scratched, dented. If people think they're going to buy a used truck and have it not use as a truck are delusional.

Ive only had mine for 5 months, brand new and I can tell you how every scratch has happened. My thought is "fuck it, its a truck". If you are that worried, park in a garage n leave it there cause honestly I think these things are just destined to have scratches and dents.

The area behind the door handle on my truck is full of small straight scratches from grabbing the handle. Those are the ones that annoy me since I see them every time I go to open the truck.

Numerous scratches on my 2012, I hunt, I fish so it’s going to happen. Darker colors are the worst for it. It’s my daily driver so I do buff the nasty ones out, hey you got to look good:cool:

I really like the spruce green mica color, looks amazing in the sun. BUT it’s by far the weakest paint I have ever had on any truck/car I owned. I think it scratches sometimes just by looking at it LOL. Anyone else find the spruce green a little weak?

Knowing in advance that we were buying our '06 for off-roading rather than a daily driver, existing nicks, dents & scratches played no part in our shopping/buying. I was MUCH more interested in the mechanicals and maintenance. Our '06 has it's share of "Colorado pin stripes" to show its use.

My recommendation is to just not worry about it--it happens.

Anyone heard about Plasti Dip? Everyone is talking about it around here, so I'd thought I'd share.

I don't know if it would be a cheap way to protect your paint while off roading!

I'm going to try on my wheels during winter, and see how it acts!

OP I didn't even have plates on my truck when I TOTALLY pinstriped my entire passenger side. As others have said we have darker colored vehicles so they really show. I was pissed at myself buffed most of them out too, but a year later and they are just battle scares. I USE my truck which is why I bought it in the first place.
