That I can't tell you, but logic would say that A-trac front / locked rear is better, than open front / locker rear. I have a Pre-09 so when I engage my locker A-trac completely shuts off. There is a mod for it, but I have no reason to do it since I can just engage my front locker.

But on that note, if you have gotten yourself into something that 4wd and a rear locker is struggling to get you out of, A-Trac may not get you much farther, although a little bit maybe. haha

I'm just gonna throw this out there. If I kept blowing up the stock rear and intended to keep the IFS, LT or otherwise...

The cruiser is getting a 14 bolt though. Likely welded LOL

This is what I thought too. But sure enough my 05 SR5 has a mechanical limited slip in it.

I'm not going to lie, my inner 10 year old went nuts over that. I'd like to say I got the Sport for the beefier rear springs (towing quite a bit)... but it was at least partially influenced by the scoop...

Had no idea I got a larger axle too.

All the Tacomas do except the TRD Offroads because they have the e-locker.

Kind of weird your SR5 has the LSD. Axle swap at some point? Or is it a Sport that had some stuff pulled off of it. Or it's just some rare model I guess. Haha

 I kind of wish mine had the scoop! I hear it can be blinding with the sun though...

Larger axle is relative here. haha It's not much stronger especially in the scheme of things. haha

I've got an OR I push pretty damn hard.

Stock torque, but I've done locked 4 wheel spins to get me through deep snow, slush. Sometimes you reach the bottom and it launches you. Rock crawls in the summer, mud up to the drivers door in the spring. Creek crossings, rooty trails, etc. I've done it all on my little 8" and locker. No issues yet!

BTW I'm on 33" tires with 2.5-3" icon lift.

You sound about like me with my '05. haha I blew up the factory ring and pinion in the 1st month I had it though, when I was still babying it (at least compared to now) only had 12,000 miles on it... Was stopped on a paved road and punch the throttle and it blew up... Had it replaced under warranty with all OEM parts and it started whining like a bitch after about 500 miles so I got 4.88's installed by ECGS and have never looked back:D

Monkeyproof has blew up a set or two just backing out of his driveway... (Either he has fubar'd his housing/carrier at some point though or don't ever let him install gears for you:p haha)

Surprisingly enough these rearends seem to hold up when people abuse them but blow up under normal daily driving. haha

Havent seen many guys blowing up gears on the LT side of the house. Me personally Im swapping to a Ford 9" for future power gains and to beat on it without hesitation.

I kind of hinted at this point with my last sentence. haha It is very possible. haha
That is also a possibility as well and very likely the case. Who is building the 8" rearends? They need better QC apparently. haha

I hope you aren't bashing DK, that thread was really very helpful to me when I was trying to figure out all the different drive modes.

That post is helpful, but somehow he always seemed to find his way into a thread within a minute of something mentioning A-TRAC, always! and now it is a running joke on here. haha

Seems to me you're jealous that David K. has A-TRAC and you don't.
