At 60k I changed the oil in the rear on my 06 Taco. 80W-90 with a LSD additive.

I'm 18K down the road and I noticed a chatter. So here's the question.
More additive or drain and start over?

In my situation, I overfilled and syphoned some out. I didn't really notice chatter, but did experience the inside wheel spinning where it normally wouldn't.
I added a little more additive. Also, someone here mentioned "figure 8s"; I went to an open parking lot and did a couple slow, tight, figure 8s, and gave it some more time. It seems fine now. It may just take a while to mix all the fluids properly.

    Maybe your fluid is low?

Couple questions before I change the diff oil front & rear as well as the t case oil..

What should the fill and drain plug be torqued at for the front & rear? This thread says 36lb-ft for both while another thread says the front diff fill plug should be torqued at 29lb-ft and the drain plug at 48lb-ft. Doesn't say anything about the rear..
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ront-diff-transfer-case-oil-change-howto.html

So what should I torque the fill/drain plugs for the front & rear diff?

    Transfer Case: Fill/Drain plugs 27 ft-lbs
    Manual Transmission: Fill/Drain plugs 27 ft-lbs
    Automatic Transmission: Filter bolts 84 in-lbs....Fluid pan bolts 65 in-lbs....Drain plug 15 ft-lbs.......Overflow plug 15 ft-lbs......Refill plug 29 ft-lbs

Just did mine today and have 1 question, I used 3 bottles of mobile 1 75/90 and I know the manual says it takes 2.8 qts and the generally accepted way to fill a diff is put oil in until it starts to run out BUT I put all 3 bottles in my rear diff and it still wasn't full enough for oil to start running out. I thought my drive was level but is it possible it was just tilted and not level? Basically, should I worry about adding more oil or just be satisfied that there's a bit less than 3 qts in?

Weld a piece of rebar for leverage, get it loose, then cut the rebar. Will be pita, but can't think of any other way...

I had the same issue, took a lot in like 3.7 QTS, to the bottom of the filler plug.. Weird. I drive slow anyways, but will be keeping an eye on it for any weird behavior.

I have a 2008 2.7l reg cab base. Just did the rear diff fluid change with 75w90 mobil 1. Do i have a lsd? The bottle says it has lsd additive in it. is mobil 1 ok to use since a synthetic in a diff. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

PS - manual says 3.5qts, but took 4 full quarts til the top of the filler plug

Read the entire thread, it clearly explains which have the LSD diff. Also, to avoid Mobil 1 on LSD. I think you don't have an LSD , but double check by reading. :)

Some have wrote about problems with mob 1, and gone back to conventional + friction modifier. I personally used Castrol gear with transx modifier and no problems so far, besides apparently taking in more lube than what I anticipated, I'll double check level this weekend, since I'm doing the transmission flush..

They had problems because they didn't use enough friction modifier. The diff will grumble at you when making turns.

The first time I did it, used about 2 bottles of FORD XL3 at 26k. A couple months ago, I changed oils again at 60k and used 1.5 bottles of XL3.

Where is the oil level? Can you stick your finger in and feel the oil close to the fill hole? I took barely over 3 qts to get it to where it was just at the bottom of the fill hole.
