You guys are fucking crazy to be trusting the government with your investments.

 

It's not like private industry is doing a bang up job... Sub - prime backed securities anyone?

 

That was 5 years ago and the gov arguably was to blame at least partially. More currently however, the markets are at record highs (Dow is over 15k)

What about the great depression, gold runs, ponzi scheme, Internet bubble, etc? I'm not saying private industry is necessarily a bad choice, just that you have a much better chance of losing with private investment. The margins with the government may be lower, but the likelihood of the gov going under are significantly less. Besides, if the gov went under, I seriously doubt any investment would be worth squat.

 

I'm sure all the people that had municipal bonds with Detroit would argue differently

That remains to be seen in bankruptcy court, and the vast majority of bonds are federal.

Mike I cleared the stock market in 06 best thing I ever did, Its way over heated now & it can end up 10c or less on the $ over night. As a nation we are in worse shape then 1932!!! Across the board its going to be 10c on the $. Bad for everyone bond holders,, x city workers everyone that the city owes $ to

Alot of that city's bonds are not state or fed. gov backed, Its going to be bad, bad, bad news for alot of folks in this mess.

 

Would you invest in a company that was 16 trillion in debt and hasn't had profitable quarter in over 10 years?

We drove by it, I thought I recognized the name. Had dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Took Kyle to the firkin whatever its called behind Waterford for a game of bowling. Wasn't very impressed.

What's funny is we grew up over there and now we cant stand being on that side of town. Way too many people, bad drivers, and just too hectic. We will stick with Debary any day.
