Thank u............I HATE hids in our fogs, theres no hid h10 or 11 with glare shields, and yes they are killers.

But if no ones around, by all means go for it...........shit on backroads I used to blast the lightforces and cheap ass kragen HIDs plus high beams and fogs.

Wait, what? My fogs won't turn on unless my headlights are on.

I have DDM 5000K's in my stock housing... They don't blind anymore then a stock Tacoma does, But thats because I spent a lot of time angling them and the end result isn't any brighter than stock halogens it may even be slightly worse.

For the best output and quality I highly recommend doing a retrofit, It's not too hard to take apart the headlights and do a retrofit. I just didn't want to spend $300 at this time. It's on my to do list if I decide to keep my Taco.

once u aim drop ins low enough to not blind others as bad, u are actually costing urself distance because ur eyes are overwhelmed by the bright light right in front of the truck and the pupils adjust to that and distance suffers.

besides, the stock housings are meant to distibute light from a filament........... HID has no filament, it is an arc which excites minerals.

OP, stick with ur plan of projectors, ur on the right path good sir.

The way I see it is, it's ALL illegal. So when you get pulled over by some dick cop for having non-factory HIDs(even if they're retrofitted), you're hosed. It's just my opinion. I wouldn't spend that kinda dough on them

Its a federal law so yes..... They are illegal unless the vehicle came with an option for them.

But, as long as ur running projectors that are properly aimed and not using some ricer blue lights, the odds of being a cop magnet are lower. No cop is being a dick for doing his job either. At the worst I'd say " if a cop wanted an easy ticket".

Other laws my be in effect we don't pay strict attention to.

Mud flaps, tint, exhaust noise, cat or carless, not going 5 or 10 over the posted speed if the conditions are clear and ur just following other traffic, license plates unobstructed, all of road only lighting covered while on road, cracked windshields, only honking in emergency situations, texting, blah blah blah.....

Each of us don't do all the above, but its easy for 1 person to do 1 of the above right?

Point being..... We don't abide by everything when we are not being watched...,

The one that I'm scared of is others on their phone.

If u want great lighting, give it a shot.... U can resell them later..... Just don't get blue

Coming from an s2000 to a Tacoma the headlights are one of the things I miss the most. The projectors on the s2000 are absolutely amazing! Would love to rig up a set on my Tacoma one day, but it's not very easy to find a clean set these days.

Yeah 8000k is by far the most obnoxious. And it'll get you a ticket quicker too ;)

Not nearly as obnoxious as 12000k, which believe it or not I have seen several times.

Or 10000k, which is almost exactly the color of siren-bar-blue. Put those blue headlights against a backdrop of red taillights in my lane, and I can't tell if there's an accident ahead or just another moron with blue headlights.

I am thinking about this on my '13...how does one choose a shroud to best work with the application for retrofit?
