This topic is getting so old. Just goes to show you that as long as people are buying these trucks then they ain't too worried about fixin stuff.

So after many months of bitching to my dealer, my 2013 is getting a new clutch this morning it has 15 400KM on it that's about 10 000 miles. I had some weird sound (clonking knoking under the transmission case) and it was slipping and jerking in first gear.

    Wow, Congrats to your perseverance,

I am waiting for the dealer to get a hold of another MT Tacoma to compare before they can be moved forward,

Not that my opinion means anything but I am sorry for most of you guys having to go through this trouble. You guys are buying these trucks new thinking its a toyota I am good till about 200k+ is on the odo. Instead most of you are under 10k experiencing issues thats just utter bull shit. Really hope everyone of you guys gets your trucks fixed free of charge.

It's been happening for years. Also known as the "Tacoma diesel" sound as it gets worse it makes your truck sound like a diesel at idle. The guy with 94k in this thread says his is still going strong with the noise. File under Toyota "normal." There was a tsb for within the 3/36,000, but not sure if it actually solved anyone's issue.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/49243-rattling-type-noise-diesel-sound.html

Edit: The A/C can make this noise more prevalent because it puts more load on the engine at idle.

Clutchmaster dual-friction. It's stronger then stock and has the same pedal feel so its not hard to push down or anything. There are a lot of good clutches out there now though. When I got mine there wasn't many made. Haha but I hate all stock clutches. None of them engage like I like so I always replace my clutches in my cars

the dealer replace my clutch pressure plate and disk plus i guess whatever else that needed to be done, everything is now lube well also, the issue was the pressure plate, once they removed it all the bearings where so loose in there it was rattling like crazy,

my truck drive way better then it did that's for sure, better then when it was new... lets just hope that it will last this time.

    Update: 08-26-2013

Had a test drive today in a used 2013 RC MT, quiet in 5th where mine is making the noise,

I'm dropping it off tomorrow morning, getting a loaner and they will see what Toyota Tech says for them to do next,

May possibly just get a new 5-spd transmission, I'll update again when I have one.

It took a while for someone to trade in a MT RC, but the dealer is on top of it, :D

    I am thankful!

    THIS isn't cool,

Guess all I can do is call Toyota tech help and reference the number they gave me,

How could this me a normal trait for any 5-spd MT mated to a 4cyl???

They stated the 2013 RC MT truck will more than likely develop the noise also,

Really, I am a little frustrated,

It has been a LONG while since I've posted here. Sorry to hear about all the other issue's people are having. If you need to refer back to my issue's, go a page or two back. I moved from Texas to California, got a new dealer and will be going into them this weekend with issue's. Will also get video's of said issue's for filing by other Tacoma owners here.

    Texas Outcome:

*Clutch Pedal Squeak* Tech adjusted nut/screw/something behind pedal, squeak went away. Since then, squeak has come back, will address with new service department.

*Clutch slipping on takeoff* California is nice and cool, but it's a steady cool, so issue hasn't shown it's ugly little shake more then a few times, will wait for fall/winter to re-address.(note: temp change of 30+ degree's from night to morning is when this issue is at its worse)

*NEW(ish) issue* Sometimes when I am idle at a stop light, and I try to put it into first gear, it gets like... blocked, and I have to put it into second gear to unblock first gear, then its fine.

    *NEW(ish) issue*
Loud and feel-able ^clonking knoking^ in tranny in first, associated with the slipping I get in the cold mornings.

Both new issue's may not be issue's, but will be checked out when I get to the dealer.

*Unrelated To Clutch Issue* Driver window goes all the way down, the squeeze like HELL when any little bump is felt. Kinda like a piece of metal is scratching it. No visable markings on window, and I wont take the door apart myself if its something the dealership needs to handle. Will update on this too.

As nice as the Camry was I am thankful to be back in my Tacoma, I realize Toyota has no technical replacement vehicle policy so I am thankful the dealer offered me a car to drive,

Called and requested to meet with a rep and take them for a drive in my truck,

I just want someone to tell me exactly what it is doing it, who knows. Maybe I am closer to an auto than I think,

So I have escalated the issue with Toyota National,

They have been very nice and have documented my concerns, giving me a new case number also.

The dealer I purchased my truck from is very close to my girlfriends house, So often I will walk the lot sometimes in the late afternoon huors as I wait for her to get home before we go exercise or whatever,

Well last week on Thursday evening I was looking at the DCSB trucks, they had two left, one lifted with BFG ATs on it the other stock but legal tint on it, I was thinking maybe I could afford one of these and just trade. But I know for now the V6 would cost me more in fuel and the payment would be higher weren't to my liking.

In the way back of the lot I spied an RC, 4x4, identical to mine, I thought it was a 2014,

Turns out it was a 2013 but with a SOLD tag in it, :-(

I returned a call that same day to Toyota about the noise,

On Friday I went out of town and missed some calls from Toyota wanting to confirm and try and set up a meeting with a higher service rep to ride with me,

Fast forward to Sunday night I was walking the lot again and couldn't believe my eyes,

The same 2013 RC 4x4 with AT was for sale, guess it was a vehicle that had a deposit on it, buyer backed out last minute, never even came and drove it, had 7 miles on it.

So I texted my sales rep and told him I would be in Tuesday morning 9am sharp to test drive it and entertain trading in my 2012,

It was a blessing, my sales rep had already been working with a co-owner of the dealer and they know about the whine in top gear from some of the Tacomas and before I could show em what I had from NADA and KBB prepared to fight for my trade in value, un-seen they offer me 2000 less than what I paid before tax, tag, fees, And the HUGE blessing is that price is more than the best numbers from NADA and KBB,

So long story short I traded for a 2013, same color, just have an AT now, and I love it, the hands free BT in the stereo is a nice touch, I got to keep my hitch, Ipod adapter, Toyota tool box and intermittent wiper switch, lol...

Now just have to call and make that tint appt!

SO I am sad I am no longer in my 2012 MT RC 4x4, but am SO thankful for the deal and the better finance rate and lower payment of my 2013 RC AT 4x4, :D

Just posting in to say my 2012's clutch started slipping at 40k. Which is way too early for a clutch fail IMO.

Is there still no TSB for the '12s?

I'll probably have to eat the cost anyways, but just curious.

New to this site, new to being a new-truck owner. I made the jump to new-truck ownership in 2012 precisely because I don't want to worry about repairs.

So, a 2012 Tacoma, purchased new, with a slipping clutch is exactly what I was trying to avoid.

Just as the weather has gotten cold, this being the beginning of the truck's 2nd winter, the clutch slips so badly that I have to down-shift into 3rd and climb hills at well below the speed limit to prevent slippage.

I had met a guy this summer who had the same truck, same year as mine, (same color even). He told me a story of his clutch slipping, how the dealer gave him the run-around (could not reproduce, etc. etc.) and finally took it to a private shop who repaired it. I mean to call him up and ask about it now. At the time, I had said 'mine's fine, no problems' !!!

Any suggestions as to how to talk to the dealer from those out there who've been through this are welcome!

Thanks in advance to the contributors to this site, and to any help users can give.
