I have an '07 Taco Sport SR5 with 17" rims that are starting to peel and look like shit. I know the wheel size is 17x7.5. Last year I put on 265/70/17 BFs with very minimal rub. Now I'm looking to get new rims and I want to go bigger with my tires. Nothing crazy, I was thinking 17x8 rims with 285/75/17 tires.

Can I get away with this by simply installing a 2 or 3" lift kit? Will I need spacers if I go 17x8 or will I have enough clearance with the lift kit?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lots of stickers are rumored to add clearance and horsepower. Nothing confirmed yet however. Buy at your own risk.

You may have rubbing on the cab mount / inner plastic under the fenders (if you don't have an aftermarket front bumper), even on a 3'' lift. Especially if you flex the suspension.

Plenty of people with this type of setup on the forum. Try and search within the "2nd Gen Build" section with key terms of the tire size, etc.

I originally wrote 285/75/70 when I meant to write 285/70/17s...

Okay so after some thread searches it looks like I'm going to switch to 16" wheels. I like the look over my 17s with the taller 285/75 tires.

So can someone please confirm that I will NOT have to do any bodywork modification to my '07 TRD Sport-other than some fender trimming- with the following setup...

    3" Lift Kit
BFG KO AT - 285/75/16 tires
    Pro Comp 7098 16x8 wheels / 6x5.5 bolt pattern / 0 offset / 4.5" BS

Anyone with this setup, I appreciate the info. Thanks.

You mean cab mount? Are you saying that I'm probably going to hit it? Is this from experience or have you just read that? My off-roading is minimal. I drive on some sand dunes in the summmer and occasionally short distances on rutted fireroads.

I only have one shot at getting this right. The wife is already giving me grief about spending the money. The last thing I need is an, "I told you!" lecture. :D

If you don't flex the suspension, you will most likely not rub on the cab mount, but a lot of people have different experiences with a 3'' lift and 33's. If you do flex it, you will rub on the cab mount.

Sorry I'm at work, but yea, when you flex the suspension the tire will rub the cab mount and at close to full lock, so if your going over dunes and such I would just go ahead and chop it and be done.
