I had planned on using it for camping out in the bed on long roadtrips and what not. I like it so far, especially since I can collapse it quick when I need more over head space in the bed.

Just got mine put on. I didn't like the idea of Velcro on the paint so i plasti dipped a strip under the plastic rail, and I'm thinking of replacing the Velcro with felt and sewing in some magnets.

Does the cot fit alright length wise? It says they are 74 inches, which seems too long.

I am currently "borrowing/testing out a Bestop Soft top" for this week. Anyone with a Softtopper can you get me a photo from the side. I would like to see how high up it goes over the cab compared to the Bestop

    Thanks everyone

I like em'. They are water tight, a lil tricky to install, but I imagine the more I do it the easier it will get.

Just bought a 2011 Taco and the Softopper will be my first mod. I had a really nice ARE cap on my 1999 reg cab but limited my hauling.

I use this ALPS lightweight cot. You can find them on sale at various sites. It's not really that lightweight but the low profile works well.

The windows are tinted up good, you can't see all that well in there at a glance in day light hours. Once I get a tail gate lock, it should be fairly vandal resistant.

It wasn't in this thread, but I know it was somewhere on these fine forums. A guy had a soft top (unsure what brand) and a tool chest bolted into the bed of his truck. It secured through the bottom of the bed, and it didn't hang over the bedsides. Does anyone know who that is, what chest that might be, or have any ideas for leads on something like it?

I don't have my truck yet. I'm buying it from my Father In-law. Well, taking over his lease and then buying it out. It's complicated.

I use that cot for camping but I have seen some people that built a plywood platform for their bed and use the same cot on that. It works great because it keeps you low. Some taller people with shortbeds hinge their platforms at the end and put the gate down and flip it out, then use a tarp from the top of their topper out and down.

Hey guys I've been searching all over looking for a soft topper for my 2001 DCSB (5ft bed). The problem isn't finding one that will fit, the problem is finding one with windows on the sides as well as the front and back.

Ever since I saw the soft top with windows on the sides I new that was what would work best for me. Some one help me find one for my 1st gen short bed.
Or just let me know if they DONT make them for first gen 5ft beds.

    Thanks!!!

They make one for a 1st gen but its for a 6ft bed. Someone please correct me if im wrong! I wish I was because I cant find one.

How long/ wide is the bed on a 2nd gen DCSB?
    Is it 5ft long?

I see they make a soft top w/ windows all around for 2nd gen short beds but I doubt it would fit a 1st gen short bed.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Put the softopper on Friday and messed around with it a bit yesterday. Need to work on folding it up neatly.

So, i'm pretty sure that my soft topper has bumped me up from 16.5 to 17.5mpg when its fully set up, has anyone else noticed this unexpected gain? I guess it makes sense, lot less wind moving around in the box dragging you around. I just didn't think id get one whole mpg out of it

Too soon for me to know. I do know I get better mpg sticking around 55 vs 65/70. Sunday I had 19.5 mpg going 65/70 on interstate and nearly 24mpg on 55 mph state roads. With the top on. Next couple tank ups will show better evidence.
