Hey guys, I have never touched or fixed a car in my life asides from an oil change once... But I recently received an older Tacoma in exchange for my accord. Needless to say, this will be the very first car I will ever be modifying! And it is definitely exciting seeing some of your guys cars as inspiration.

Unfortunately, the Tacoma is 100% stock, from roll up windows, to sitting closer to the ground than my accord, to wheels that hide within the cars frame (stock stock wheels..)

I want to make it look a little more like a truck.. The problem is I have no clue what makes the truck look more like a truck...

For those that don't wanna read all that, I guess I want to know how I get from the Tacoma imaged below, to this one:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/89963486@N05/8643503261/

(Beavis0076, if you see this, your car is awesome)

I think this Tacoma is perfect but not sure if my Tacoma can even look like that after all the cosmetic surgery...

If you guys can help or provide some input, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Suspension/wheels and tires.....pretty much what you are missing. Everything else would just be extra in my opinion.

weak? i'm guessing you have a 2.7 4 banger? 4x2 non prerunner. i think most tacos on here are 4x2 prerunners, or 4x4.

You have a 5 lug tacoma, it has a different suspension than the 4x4 and pre runner trucks, not really a whole lot you can do to a 5 lug suspension wise.

    this and that...
5 lug vs 6 lug. the one you linked is a 6 lug truck, so they sit higher from the factory stock because of the 4wd, or lack thereof (prerunner=2wd with 4wd clearance). you can make your 5 lugger the same height of the truck you posted, but im not too familiar with the components that are available to the 5 lug guys, so ill shut up now LOL.

Just upgrade the wheels and tires... will make a big change in how it looks and how you feel.

    Are you sure?

I've seen some single cabs, which I believe are 5 lug's, with some great suspension upgrades...??

He should be able to put Fox MidTravel on it, or Bilstein 5100's??

Why is there not much he can do suspension wise with a 5 lugger?

He can get custom MT CO's (i forget who has them, but he's a NM member), but the 5100's aren't available for 5 lug.

he could also go LT, but that's a massive investment.

Op, 99% of the trucks on this forum are 6 lug, ie 4x4 suspension and factory 31" tires. Where as yours is lower factory on generic steelies and much smaller tires, as less trim package detail. So right off the gate that's why. If you know you plan on keeping it for a while and really want the tough 4x4 look like everyone else on here, your only good option is to sell it and just get a pre runner or 4x4. Unless you feel like dropping a bunch of cash to get it to te same level as regular 6 lug

I think he might just have upgraded rims and tires in that picture. Not sure if he has upgraded suspension..

Tires / Rims will do a LOT for you on your truck.

    Thanks

So obviously those 5 lug ones won't work on my truck but their Stealth 6 in Bronze is very cool, and they are 17" rimes! Time to wish for more $$$
