6" pro comp

So I found a killer deal on a 6" pro comp lift and I'm considering taking advantage of it. Just a question, I have 17x9 rims. Do I have to run an 18" wheels or will my 17" be alright?

Why would the lift change what size rims you can run?

 

Because it's possible for the wheels to hit the UCA in some vehicles. I'm not familiar with Taco lifts, since I'm a new Taco owner, but I know it can be an issue with other makes.

Backspacing can also be used to clear some UCA issues as well, so the factor isn't just wheel size.

 

Yeah but he was only asking if he had to run 18s..

Anyways yes op you can run 17s, even 16s depending on the back spacing. Your biggest concern os backspacing

 

Because the tie rod is flipped on these kits & will make contact with the inside of a wheel that is smaller than 18's. BUT.....I have the same kit with 16x8 wheels.....just add wheel spacers.

And you chose to ask why someone would need to run larger wheels, rather than answer the question, if you know it.

Some people would rather run larger wheels than put the stress of non-factory offset into play. Wheel spacers and extended offset will cause more wear in the future, than sticking with the factory offset. I have a Z71 that I lifted in 99 and it's now in need of a few replacement parts up front. The UCA bushings are getting bad. At the time, there were not a lot of great wheel and tire options larger than 16". I had wanted to just stick with the stock wheels, but the UCA wouldn't clear them, so I had to go aftermarket with deeper BS. I can see where someone would prefer to go larger, now that there are plenty of options in both wheels and tires.

 

Monster coma - Sorry but no you are partially wrong on this one buddy, comparing your 3" lift with OE spindles to a 6" pro comp DB kit with Pro Comp spindles is apples and oranges. The aftermarket spindles in 6" kits create different clearance issues. Google a photo of the PC kit and you will immediately see the difference in the bigger spindles vs your OE ones. The larger diameter rim moves further away from the spindle , think about the angle the spindle sits at the further you go up the further you move away from the spindle...hope that makes sense ? 18x9's with 4.5 back spacing sit just 1/4" off the spindle on the kits.

Op - be very careful about wheels you must have a wheel with 4.5" back spacing for the Pro Comp 6" kit or you tires will hit the bigger beefier spindles that come with the kit. Be 100% sure your wheels will work before the kit is installed or you will have your cross member cut and your kit installed and no wheels to ride on. Trust me... It happened to me 7 yrs ago..." Yup your wheels will work " next call... " umm your gonna need to drop another $1200 on new wheels or you can't drive your truck "

This is correct - you can avoid the clearance issues by adding spacers as Warputer did ....but then we open up the wheel spacer debate vs. additional stresses and wheel bearing wear and tear. We just replaced a front bearing on 2011 with only 30,000 miles....put spidertrax front spacers on the first week he had it to fit specific low offset wheels he wanted to run... Coincidence ?
