Well I just picked up my first Tacoma. I have been a gm guy forever but man do I love this truck and I don't know why it has taken me this long to get one of these trucks.

My truck is a 2014 TACOMA TRD SPORT. The mods I plan on doing in the next month are a supercharger (supercharger comes in a few days):D and a lift with wheels and tires.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=235843&stc=1&d=1380763200

Before I ask any questions I just want to let you guys know that I did search for the things I am asking about it is just that I have never had a Tacoma so I need a little bit of help getting started on some of the mods I want to do.

The first question I have is about the lift kits for the Tacoma. I mainly drive on the highway during the week and on the weekends I go up to the hunting lease and the farm with a little off-roading for fun every now and then. I want the truck to ride smooth now I have lifted my trucks in the past and I know you lose some of that smooth ride when you lift but there are also cheap lifts out there that are really rough. I just need some help deciding what lift I should go with. I would love to get the icon lift but do I really need to spend that kind of money on a lift when I have read that people are liking the EMU, and Toytec lifts.

Thanks guys for all of the help.

Welcome! I like my OME lift, it's a little stiff but I don't find it horrible.

For a good budget lift setup, you can't go wrong with OME or Toytec's kit. However, if you can afford it, Icon's kit is great for daily driving and mild offroading. Set a budget and go from there.

I am sure you know, as always, ride quality is directly proportional to cost. The cheaper kits usually have the rougher rides. It really depends on how much of a lift you would like, and what size tires you will run.

    Oh, and welcome to TW!!!!!

Thanks guys for the help. I will do some more searching on the toytec and EMU lifts.
I just want a 3" lift and maybe try to fit some 285"s on the truck. I thought I read that the icon lift will fit 285's but do you guys know if they will fit on the toytec and EMU lifts as well or would I have to do a lot of cutting.

bjboucher, if you don't mind would you tell me how much your EMU lift set up cost with everything pictured on your build thread? Thanks.

I run a toytec 3inch lift with 2inch add a leaf in the rear. Had to do Upper control arms with the lift, but 285/75/r16s fit. Gives you zero turn radios though, U-Turns are a total pain in the ass unless you add spacers (and even those I do not recommend as they stress out the lug studs.)

Nice color man! haha I have the Toytec 2 in lift that comes with Bilstein 5100 shocks for front and rear. The front are adjustable so you can set them at any height you want up to 2.5 inches. It comes with the rear lift part which is just an extra leaf spring. Comes with a front diff. drop too. You can have them set the front shocks where you want them when you get them and the springs will come all loaded on the shock so all you have to do is slip it in.

I really like it. I still have the stock tires but it rides very nice didnt need longer brake lines or UCAs and it was around 600-700 bucks depending on what you get for components.

I bought everything through Wheeler's Offroad and it cost me right around $2,000 for parts and shipping when all was said and done. A little less but not much. You may be able to find it a little cheaper but not by a ton.

I was looking at both the ultimate lift kit by toytec and the EMU kit earlier and I saw that you decide what springs you want up front and you also get to choose your options in the rear. So how do I know which springs to put up front and what is the difference in the add a leaf and the dakars? I don't know much about the dakars but the price sure does jump up there if you had them. Are both kits with the dakars as good as the icon stage 2 lift? I have to ask because if you add the dakars than all three kits are about the same price.

Sorry for so many questions guys, I am trying to search for everything and trying to read from other post as well. Thanks again.

Add a leaf is kind of like a band-aid lift....you stick an extra leaf in your stock leafs to get 1.5-2" of lift. The Dakars are a pretty sweet, all new, complete 7-leaf pack that gets you about 2.5" of lift. They're pretty badass and worth the price.

For the front, the different OME springs are for different cab configurations and weights. 884 are for regular and access cabs, 885s are for double cabs, 886s are for trucks with a lot of extra weight up front (bumper, winch, armor, etc). I can't tell you about the ultimate kit.

Thanks for the feedback, everything that I have read has told me to get the dakars but I just wanted to see if people thought they were worth the extra money.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of the guys that helped me out with my questions. I recently picked up a toytec ultimate lift kit with the add a leaf in the rear. I was wanting the dakars in the rear but I got a good deal on the kit so I will wait a while and hopefully I can get the dakars later. I also just picked up some trd beadlock style wheels. I am hoping to install everything next weekend so I will post some pics up after I get it all installed. Thanks again guys.:D
