    yep my 2013 does this...

    and this.

My 2006 DC SR5 auto 4WD was great no issues. I did finally get the squeaky leafs after about 60K. Most everything else was taken care of by TSB even the Harsh ride replace your leafs TSB way back when. I guess now they have a whole new system for this...Sports get 4 pk OFF Road get 3 pak. I haven't noticed the 13 OR bottoming out like my 2006 Sr5 did pre-TSB.
    Oh yeah one more.....
I did have the irritating whistle, just followed the mod for using the clear drain line into the hood rubber weatherstripping piece. Now no whistle.

Honestly, I put gas in it, turn the key & smile from ear to ear. I love the truck....

Had the same issue w my 2013. Found solution here. It the thin rubber in between the hood and grill. Creates whistle between 40 mph and about 60 mph. Just inserted a 1/4 tube in that rubber, solved! Search this forum, OP is applejax. Awesome!

I didn't have it before but after doing the BHLM I now get this whistling problem...thinking it's probably something similar to this. Can you direct me to the link to said fix for this?

You don't even need the link the mod is so easy. Run to your hardware or garden store and get some 1/4" drip line. You have 3 main seals under your hood...1 attached to each headlight and 1 in the middle above the grille. They are hollow, so cut the dripline to size and push it on in.

The whistle was supposedly caused by the seals being flimsy so when the wind blows them out of shape they create a whistle.

No whistle, no shimmy, no driveline issues. Course I'm running the stripped version, so there's less to go wrong. If it weren't for the TOTALLY BULLSHIT WEAK-ASS REAR LEAF SPRINGS I would probably spend my days standing on street corners with a sign telling people how awesome this truck is. But instead I go to work to afford the payments on it.

So in a bit we'll be having a chat with the dealer about the TOTALLY BULLSHIT WEAK-ASS REAR LEAF SPRINGS that can't even hold a camper shell up. Jesus.

But other than that, my truck rocks. I don't say that lightly. It's freakin' great.

At least the whistling sound mentioned in response #1 you can get rid of for about $3.. This one is annoying (same truck here)

My 2013 DC LB has the whistle as well from 55-70 MPH - gets bad in high winds. Dealership ordered a replacement seal - waiting on it to come in.

I'm new to the Tacoma as well and so far I'm not impressed. Mine has 100k at purchase. Interior holds up great. It looks like new inside. Body has held up well also. The truck overall looks great. Now for the bad; "Normal maintenance" as you described, really isn't normal in my opinion. Changing plugs every 30k? Really? Are we back in 1979? For every new vehicle, plugs should last 100k. Period. You can upgrade to better plugs that should last longer if you like. But, should you if Toyota chose not to use them? I don't know. Why Toyota chose not to put iridium plugs in at the factory is beyond me. Leaf packs have been a problem, from what I've found, well over 10 years and the problem is still not corrected. Fix it before 30k or the price tag will be on you. This is unacceptable for a modern day vehicle! Chevy and Ford owners would not accept this. Rear Diff fluid changed every 30k if you have a limited slip. Normal maintenance is not normal and is higher than what it should be. Before you buy take a look at the manual and the maintenance suggestions. It looks like a model T maintenance schedule to me. Way more fluid changing and work than it should be. Just look at the forum. Everyone is asking about fluids, what can be used in the engine. What can be used here and there. I saw a post this morning suggesting Toyota does not want synthetic oil used in the V6? Really?

The Tacoma seems to be the ideal compromise between size and mpg but.....
so far the Tacoma seems to be a finicky truck and it has not proven itself at least to me. I'll stick with it for now but if things don't improve over the next year, it's gone.

As far as you wanting to buy something that requires little work beyond maintenance, first consider the problems Toyota has not yet corrected, like the leaf packs. This will require additional work on your part to correct. Then, look at the required maintenance. You may choose to buy something else instead once you do.

30k miles?! That doesn't sound right. And I think they do use iridiums from the factory...

    It's right in the manual.

With a disclaimer regarding, keeping smog specs in check. They may use iridium now but I know they didn't in earlier trucks. Mine is a 06. Now I'm curious if they have actually made the right change in OEM.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
I think the dual VVT-i 1GR motors are coming with iridium plugs now too (current FJ and 4Runner). Anyone verify?

Copper plugs wear faster so that explains the short change interval. Doesn't explain why they didn't go with iridiums to start with.

Well, after my morning rant I need to update with new information. I finally got around to replacing the three plugs on the left side of my motor tonight. I found NGK's, while the plugs on the right were the other brand recommended. From what I've seen here, this means all the plugs were factory installed. For some reason Toyota installs NGK's on the left and the other brand on the right, during assembly. I can't imagine anyone doing this after the fact so there is a pretty good chance my truck went 100k on the factory plugs even though they are not iridium. Pretty awesome if that is the case! They were all worn but nothing out of the ordinary and the truck seems to run and start the same.

I did find though that the maintenance schedule suggests transfer case and transmission fluid changes every 30k too, along with rear diff.

Tried to install my Firestone air suspension last night only to find they sent them out with the wrong fittings. PITA!
