I know its important to pass someone with speed but I usually just relax when driving and watch for deer all the time considering I see one every other day

FWIW I ran my Elite Offroad Front bumper without any suspension upgrade for a while. Given, mine's a 6cyl Offroad package, not sure how you're set up...

And there are some pics floating around of a Taco post deer (I think with a Relentless bumper) and you could hardly tell

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I've always wanted a deer to step in front of me while driving my plow..

I hate deer, flat out hate the vermin, a dead deer on the side of the road makes me smile. I work my ass off to keep a nice yard and vegetable garden so you can probably guess why I hate the animals so much. Too bad deer season isn't all year long!

But, if I was you since you come through Montana, look up Throttle Down Kustoms (TDK) they build the most indestructible truck bumpers out there, period. They are based out of Moore, sure they have a website somewhere. They can custom make your bumper to fit your needs which is really cool.

You must be hitting deer because of all those dam deer crossings the government keeps putting up on the highway:p.

In my area deer aren't as common on the roads but moose are and if your hit one your done man, I have heard stories of moose charging cars.

I hear you! I used to spend all kinds of time in the garden, only to watch deer eat it. Now I wait, watch, then launch 162 grains of .308 at them. My freezer is filled with venison.

I see TDK bumpers everywhere in eastern MT and ND. They definitely seem to be popular and bomber. I've never seen one on anything but a 3/4 ton truck though. I would imagine anything for a Tacoma would have to be custom.

I actually hit the deer 50 yards past a deer crossing sign *facepalm*. But you guys up there in Canada have some of the best deer crossing signs I've ever seen. The big square ones with the car hitting the deer are my favorite.

The entire interstate system in MT is 75 except for a couple small sections being 65 going through 2 of our major cities. Highways are usually 70

To bring some damage comparison in..

I actually hit a deer with a stock bumper doing ~45. Impact was just off center, toward drivers side. Over 3K in body damage, though the only thing that impacted driving was my damn headlight pointing off into the ether.

When I learned to drive in MT you could pass a highway patrolman doing 110 MPH drinking a beer, and as long as you weren't underage or drunk, and you were being "reasonable" and "prudent", you weren't breaking the law.

That being said, on the back roads, which are mostly 70 MPH now, if you got caught doing much more than 85-90 MPH, you weren't being reasonable and prudent in the eyes of the highway patrol.

I was going to ask the same thing. I remember there not being a speed limit on most of the interstate in MT.

It hasnt been that way since the late 1990s, but there are still plenty of places you can cruise 80-85 all day long, and tons of critters who don't know to stay out of the road.

Well, I got my bumper ordered today. Decided to go with the Relentless, built in Aluminum, and full predator bars. Since I don't need a winch I opted for a cut out for a 20" Rigid light bar (see those deer coming from a mile away). I think it will be pretty awesome when I get it in 5 months, hopefully I don't hit anything between now and then.

A plate bumper worked for me. Hit a big doe doing 50. Didn't keep it out of my passenger door though!!

Well, I will definitely take a dented door to being disabled in the middle of nowhere.

I get the need to make it back home. If it wasn't for that I'd stick with factory stuff. I bought my truck wrecked as I do all my vehicles. My Tacoma has the least expensive parts I've ever seen for any vehicle. What's not available on ebay you can find here. I found a new but blemished rubber bumper cover that required one coat of primer to fix the blemish, for $45.00 on ebay. That was with free shipping! Hardly worth the effort on their end I would think. Practically all the parts were like that. Headlights are available in every color and style under the sun for about a 100.00 a set. Pretty amazing really. I bought the whole front end of my truck, radiator support, headlights, bumper cover, grill, bumper reinforcement and reinforcement brackets, driving lights and other misc. parts for about $500.00. Last vehicle I fixed the hood alone was $600.00.

Yeah, if I was doing most of my driving close to home, the urgency would not have been as high. But I drive 900 miles from ID to ND to work, and I HAVE to be there when I am supposed to, there is no backup, if I am not there, I lose the contract and someone else gets the work. Plus, in the area I work, the lead time for repairs from hitting a deer could be months. So for me it is essential not be stranded far from home, or far from work, and to be able to make due until I can get home and get things repaired.
