I have already purchased the Eibach Coils and now can't decide what rear 5100's to order from DSM. I have a NON TSB 2010 4x4 Double Cab Tacoma. I also have 265/75/16 Duratracs.

ok, get the standard ones unless u want to change out your bumpstops for taller ones and lose up travel.

thats pretty much the only difference right? The length?

Rear 5100s are not height adjustable, only the front...

The rears are just shocks, they have nothing to do with vehicle height besides limiting how far the rear end can droop/ compress.

block= lift, possibly increase axle wrap and accelerate leaf spring death (negative arch)

aal= lift, lessens the already present axle wrap, helps SUPPORT the leaf pack.

Well DSm recommends a 5125 shock if you have a 2" aal. So I guess I my real question is if you had the choice and were installing eibach coils would you keep the bilsteins at 0 or .85. If I go at .85 I'm def gonna get a 2" aal to help prevent the bro lean.

I am running the eibachs at "0" and they ride great.

I am also running the standard 5100 rears with TSB pack and 1.5" aal minus the overload with zero problems.

what length 5125 did they say to use?

edit.............. if it came directly from Sonny or Micah, I would trust them

I am running Eibach Coils with 5100's set at .85(or .84 cant remember height) with a 2 inch aal in the rear. Ride is fine, rear end is .5 inches higher than the front. I do not have the TSB done. I also have the 5100's in the rear and they work out fine with the 2 inch aal.

I am, my mechanic said it's better to be safe than sorry so we threw it on.

I don't know if I had vibes after the lift or not. The Diff Drop was already on.

My advice and I know there are alot more knowledgable people, might as well install, it's not hard.

I have used the 5100's at 0.85" and 1.5" on my '07 Tacoma DCSB Sport, 5100's at 0" w/ Eibach coils (1.6" lift) and 0.85" w/ Eibach coils (2.5" lift) on my '12 Tacoma DCSB OR. I asked a lot of questions about lifts in general and the 5100's / Eibach's in specific before I did those trucks. Whenever I asked questions about the various combinations I would occasionally get comments to buy a set of quality coil overs and skip the 5100's/Eibachs/OME stuff all together. Generally those sorts of comments aggravated me greatly because I wasn't asking about putting a set of Fox/Icon/Kings on the truck, I wanted information about the more budget minded lifts.

When my wife got a new 4Runner I decided I would finally drop the coin on a set of Icon coil overs for the front, Icon rear shocks and some custom Deaver coils in the back. I wish I had listened to the advice that was given to me previously - the Icon coil overs/shocks are superior in every way and not by a small amount. I expected it to be a better suspension off-road, I was shocked by how much on road performance was improved. I now will, in return, be that aggravating guy - consider returning the Eibachs to DSM and exchanging them for a better lift - its money well spent. I will be replacing my 5100/Eibach set-up on my Tacoma w/ Icons and Deaver rear leafs w/ Timbrens sometime in the not to distant future, wish I had gotten that to begin with.

Regardless, to answer your question - If you don't want new UCA's (I didn't/don't - don't want the maintenance/reliability issues) then ~2" lift is about the sweet spot for the modern Toyota 4wds IMO. You can get a good alignment (+2 Caster), good CV angles, no need for a diff drop and you still have enough down travel to where your suspension won't beat the snot out of you at high speed on the highway. That's an easy lift to dial w/ a quality coil over - w/ the 5100's and Eibachs I would leave the 5100's at 0" and add 1/2" spacers to the top (I'm sure DSM sells them, if not you can get them from Toytec). For the rear I would do the AAL and the DSM rec. 5125's, consider upgrading the leaf pack later on if you are so inclined.

    HTH

Brochacho- nice truck that's the stance I'm looking for

Canazes9-- thanks for the input ..and i agree with you but I'm on a college kid budget...just keepin it simple for now....would the ride be smoother with the spacers and bilsteins at 0 rather than no spacers and bilsteins at .85???

Diff drops do nothing on a second gen. They only rotate the diff, they dont lessen the angles. In fact they are more likely to cause damage off road than help.

Read this, I am not dumping you off, but good info about spacer/coil lifts.

Spacers and 0" will give a better ride because it will give the suspension more down travel. This is NOT the same as the 2.5" spacer lifts that people put on their trucks that cause blown shocks. The big spacers in effect replace the factory bump stocks w/ your shocks. Shocks aren't meant to be bump stops and they get trashed pretty quickly taking moderate/big hits. A 1/2" spacer won't cause you to bottom your shocks before you hit the factory bump stops.

Also, most Tacomas have a little bit of lean to the drivers side because the battery and the gas tank are on the drivers side. Some people add a 1/4" spacer to just the drivers side to level it out (on either setting - 0" or 0.85").

If you want to keep everything level and gain just a little height, add 1/2" spacer to drivers side, 1/4" to passenger side - this will give you roughly 2" lift and a level ride, no UCA's needed, no diff drop needed, +2 caster alignment, good CV angles, good ride, improved handling.

    Regards,

    David
