For twice the price of the other kits out there it better be… Haha I'm just surprised i haven't seen anybody on here running it yet. What size coil overs do you have to run for it to pull that much travel? Even if its not 20" its gotta be somewhere around 16-17 bumped and strapped which is pretty good for a bolt-on kit. Do you need to run a longer coilover?

To pull anything over 15-16" you can't run the coil bucket and a 8". So either a 10" or 12" shock. I'm bumped at just under 19" with 12" shocks.

What kit do you have? I've heard that you can't run anything over 8" without an engine cage.. Does that not apply with this kit?

Scroll about halfway down this page there's a tundra with the same Camburg race kit (obviously for tundras but same style kit). Says he's pulling 19" with it, I know you said don't get wrapped up in travel #'s haha

If you gonna run that kit and add custom shock hoops for 10-12" coil overs...you'd be a fool not to cage the engine.

I have the Dirt Designs kit. It's not bolt on. The uppers need new mounts welded on and it needs an engine cage. But it really pulls well over 20" metal to metal and close to that bumped and strapped.

If you look in the link I posted ( ) there's a picture that shows how his shocks are mounted, and he's using the stock coil buckets. Granted its a Tundra, might be different… And also granted that if you're gonna use this kit to its full potential a cage would definitely be in order. So agreed haha
Gotcha. DD makes a pretty sweet 1st gen taco kit too but I think that one is bolt on

I have no idea why anyone would do a lot of work to keep the stock coil bucket.

I'm anal and have been in this game for a long time and bought this truck planning on ripping off the Dirt Designs kit. Then I got to cycle it and every chance to poke a hole in his design.... I got nothing, it's awesome.

Don't just take pics from a random thread and think that they are right. If been on a run with that tundra and lost him in my 07 tundra with half the travel.

Just my personal opinion, not a knock on you or anyone else so please don't take it that way.....BUT your engine cage question makes me suspicious. I'm not the safety patrol so I personally don't care if a person wants to drive 100mph but can't be bothered to worry about a cage and helmet etc.

But what I will say is probably a big part of the reason I'd think you don't see a lot of "race kits" is because there aren't a lot of "race trucks". It sounds sexy I guess but I personally don't think the difference between LT travel and "race kit" travel is all that necessary on a daily driver/weekend warrior kind of truck. Chances are the average weekend guy is going to marginally push the limits of a regular LT kit anyway.

Having said that, I have an MCM Fab race kit on my Tacoma and I couldn't be happier with it. We actually ditched the Camburg LT kit to put this on. I haven't driven a truck with a Camburg race kit but I am 100% confident that dollar for dollar the MCM kit is every bit on par with the Camburg kit.
