i just got the universal one from him. i think it's a 2.5'' x 2.5'' square. didn't take long, but that was a year ago. no idea if his lead times have changed since.

doesn't replace anything. you just splice into the small wires that go to the remote plug, inside the solenoid box/holder. you can still use the corded remote.

no, the switch is there for an added measure of safety. if the switch panel was constantly live, it wouldn't take much to accidentally lean on or place something on the in button and turn your bumper inside out.

Had to cut the mounting bracket and re-weld it a little further back to get the contactor to fit behind the bumper.

Anyone have any knowledge about the VR series from Warn? I was looking at these models

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/VR8000-s_winch.shtml

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/VR10000-s_winch.shtml

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/95cti-s_winch.shtml

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/M8000-s.shtml

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/ZEON_8-s.shtml

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/ZEON_10-S.shtml

EDIT: I was reading on the Warn website and it was saying to get a winch that is roughly 1.5x your vehicle mass. Does anyone else believe this? Or would 8K be enough for a Tacoma? When mine is all said and done it will probably weigh aroud 5k - 5.5k lbs.

Looks great David. Did you happen to take any pics of how you spliced into the solenoid wires for your in-cab controls? Looking to do the same thing on mine eventually.

Do you have on and off switch for your winch so someone does not purposely start playing with the buttons?

Correct! Switch on the left is the power on/off, which feeds the switch on the right. The switch on the right is a momentary ON-OFF-ON switch, so push up and it spools the winch in, push down and the winch spools out.

I posted a rough write-up in my build thread HERE.
