Think I'm going to have to head to the store and check out smaller carry pieces... the one I have is too big / heavy to carry concealed.... I think next friday would be a good day... This store has a range where I think I can try it out first.

    Welcome!

Just watching another news clip about another stupid person who created a situation, and they are trying to turn the tables on the cops and the way they responded.

I'm looking at either a Sig Sauer in .380 or a Kimber Solo for Lynn. It all depends on which one feels most comfortable for her.

Just caught that earlier today. Indeed sad. :(

    I got it right. :)

 Man...I gotta check out that CMP. I'm wanting another '06 to have a second hunting rifle when one of the boys want to go along. That could fit the bill while being unique and fun to own/shoot.

"6" - Do you know if a scope can be mounted on them?

Have a Ruger 10/22 now, nice gun, but really miss my old model 94 22. Left it with my brother in law when we were assigned to RAF Mildenhall in the UK. Asked about it when we got up here, he traded it for something else...still a little mad about that.

My Dad had a Marlin 30-30 lever action when I was a kid...great little deer gun in the mountains back home in VA.

Have a great Friday folks.

    Morning all:
Rob; I have the perfect "LITTLE" rifles for hunting up in your neck of the woods. I really like the "06", but when it comes to carrying a long gun around all day, I prefer these little guys.
I have both the 600 and 660 Rem. in .350 Rem. Mag. Also have both in 6.5 Rem. mag., and two 660's in .308.
The 6.5 Mags. are really good deer guns, the 350 Mags. are better for hunting larger game, such as bear. The .350 Mag. is considered a medium range gun, so if you want to reach out and touch something, it wouldn't be a prime caliber.
Yea! I know; we need pics. (Big Grin)
Top is a 600, bottom is the 660, both are 6.5 Rem. Mag.
The 600 has an 18 1/2" barrel with a vent rib, the 660 has a 20" barrel with no rib. They have the XP-100 action with the dogleg bolt.
I had another NIB version of these in a .308, but sold it. It was a 600 Mohawk, which wasn't available in a magnum. The model 7 was the replacement for these.
These guns are somewhat rare, and there are quite a few people that aren't familiar with them. I've heard that out in the western states the .350 Mags. bring good money. They are perfect scabbard guns, and have the knockdown power for bear.

It is possible to mount a scope on the Garand - sniper versions were used in WWII and Korea (M1C and M1D). They used sidemount set-ups because of the semi-auto ejection and the top down reload using 8 round Enbloc clips.

If you want to convert a military for rifle for hunting, look at the Soviet M91/30 Mosin Nagant. It fires a 7.62X54R round.

My concern with a revolver for Lynn is the pull weight of a double action trigger. I've been helping a friend learn to shoot for protection. She bought a S&W Governor and it's awesome - but the trigger pull is pretty stiff as revolvers typically are so I've got her working on using two thumbs to re-cock after firing. The Governor fires .45ACP, .45 Colt and .410 shotgun shells. Nice.
