    I have a 06 tacoma access cab 4x4,
i see other tacomas driving in the daytime and their turn signal lights are on...
Mine doesnt do that, im guessing its a daytime running light type thing....
I think its cool they do that, i was wondering if i can make mine do it?
    Does anyone know?

    Two options:
1 - Order part numbers 81980-35020 and 82241-04030 and follow the directions in this thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/1475-05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.html

2 - Find another local Tacoma owner who has DRL and does not want them.
Trade parts. He will need your flasher relay and a shorting plug from your fusebox, you will need his flasher and harness.

Now, be aware of a couple of issues....
There is no electronic flasher available for the DRL's 12-pin flasher. This means that LED conversions will require load resistors. Load resistors are fine for turn signals, but when on full time, they get VERY hot.
If you don't go to LED, be aware that your turn signal lenses will most likely discolor and crack: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/lighting/243643-09-melting-dtrl-lens-recall-petition-urgent.html

Right now, it looks like the best fix is to stick with the stock lamps, but insert a 1-ohm 50 watt power resistor in series with the lamp. That will knock the wattage and heat down by about 15%. Doesn't seem to impact brightness noticeably.

Here's another option. The bulbs that you see light up on the dtrl are already present on your truck. They simply aren't utilized. If you look at the bulb you will see 2 filaments. One for turn signals and one for dtrl. If you look at the bulb connector you will see a third spot for a wire, but there are only 2 wires and one hole is plugged. You can run a 3rd wire in the plugged hole at the connector. Once the strands are through, seperate half and half (the strands) and fold them back down on the either side. So that the when you plug the bulb in the connection is made by fitting the bulb between the wires. Splice the other end of the wire to one of the parking lights wires. Then they will turn on with your parking lights.

He doesn't want them with the parking lights... he wants them to be DRL.

DRL shuts off when the headlights are turned on... the exact opposite of what he wants.

Your method could work, but he would need to trigger them from a relay connected to an ignition-on circuit... then add further relay logic to get them to shut off with the headlights... and to completely do it right, yet another relay to shut them off when the parking brake is applied.

Cheaper and easier just to buy the OEM parts and plug them in, rather than hacking the truck's electrical system.

He didn't specify whether he wanted them as actual DTRLs or if he wanted the inner lights just to come on. He may or may not. I'm simply offering other options to using those inner lights. I did this on my last taco. Very simple mod.
