I did a search but really didn't find my answer. I'm new to Tacoma coming from 42 years of GM cars and trucks. I only have about 60 miles on my 2014. Trying to figure out if there is an auto setting for the headlamps. My Chevy trucks had an auto position, and you could turn on, and use the fog lamps anytime providing you weren't using the Hi-Beams.
This truck only allows me to use the fog lamps when the headlight switch is turned to the Full-On position. When using DRL the use of the fogs are denied.
It seems that when the ignition switch is off the lights extinguish no matter what position there in. (and that ok with me)
But if I try to use the fogs in the daytime with the headlamps on low beam, then the information display is so dim it hard to tell what's displaying on the head.
In a perfect world for me, I'd like to be able to have the DRL's on and fog lamps as well in the daylight. Hope I explained this well enough that you Toyota Veterans understand what I'm trying to do!.....Thanks in advance!
BTW this little V-6 AC TRD 4x4 is kind of fun to drive. We got several inches of snow and over the last 24 hours and this thing seems pretty sure-footed in the icy conditions.

The headlights are not exactly automatic... there are a couple of situations where you have to be careful.

If you shut the ignition off, the lights will go out when you open the door.
If you or your passenger open the door before shutting off the ignition, the lights will remain on.
If the lights are rotated to "off" and back on after the ignition is shut off, they will remain on.

They are not automatic enough that I trust them, and like you said, when on, the dash display does dim.
Yes, Toyota kills the DRLs when the headlights are on.

Im not sure if the 2014 is different but my lights turn off once the key is out of the ignition and you open the door.

But be careful cause if you turn the lights back on after removing the key they will stay on.

Ya... all of the 2nd Gen do that.
Key can be in the ignition, as long as it's off, when the door opens it shuts off.

OP, we don't know what year you have... the fog light anytime mod did change with the 2012 facelift. It's still pretty simple, but make sure you are following the correct directions.
Also remember that if your state has inspections, it may not pass if the fogs don't automatically shut off on high beam or with the headlights off... so you may need to reverse the mod for inspection.

His title says 2014, so the ones I linked to are for the 2013 specifically. The method does change from year to year like you said though. I think they were even slightly different between 12' and 13' models. Hopefully same method for 14's

Thanks for the help. Sounds like the 2013 and 2014 use a slightly simpler method, for this MOD.

Yes it is a 2014, brand new with no rust on the frame yet! lol

You'll notice that toyotas don't have a lot of "extras" compaired to the domestics.

Ya... like an "extra" three recalls the first 6 months I owned my Silverado.
Like the "extra" swings in the fuel gauge down to "E" when I knew I had a full tank.
Like the "extra" automatic interior light that flickered in my Suburban when driving in strong wind....

    Yup.

You forgot 'extra air-time' on the lift at the dealer. :D I've had a GMC in the past as well.

Reliabilty aside. Toyota really cheaps out on the most basic options that most domestics get. Same as lexus. Granted, my home will never have anything other than a toyota product.

You'll really enjoy that windshield whistle, the cheap plastics and dead battery if you leave your truck parked for a few weeks...and the fuel economy! OMG it's so "good" lol...if you like driving a small truck and getting worse fuel economy than a 3/4 ton...never had any issues like that with my old Duramax.

Put the truck in the Shop this afternoon. Had all the parts needed in my spare electrical supply box.

Took out the relay carefully bent the connector, plugged in one end of the fuse holder, snapped the relay back into place. When I went to connect the other end into heated seat relay receiver, found that on my 2014 that relay spot is not prewired as the 2013's may have been. I carefully bent the fog light relay prong back the way it was and stopped at that point.

Where is the next closest terminal to connect the outer end of the fuse holder to? Also do I chance bending that relay again, fearing it may snap off. Maybe be best to just pick up a new relay and avoid what might happen.

Just read deeper....so is hooking to the 400w inverter relay "the" trouble free, no worries, best spot to connect to?
