Those are good if you have to carry the shovel in yourself. But if I have a truck to carry my stuff I prefer the real McCoy especially to get through hard ice and when glancing off the occasional hidden rock.

For years I have been using a 5lb CO2 tank with an hair hose and tire inflater fitting. A 5lb will fill up about 15 tires if I remember correctly. Only thing bad is you don't know how much is left except by feeling the weight of it, although Im sure you can buy a gauge that will tell you.

I have a Bully Tools D-grip shovel with a steel blade that is tough as shit. A few melt/freeze cycles and snow gets rock hard anx is a bitch to deal with. For splitboarding I take an aluminum blade Black Diamond shovel. I've bent lexan bladed shovels in half, they are a joke.

check out my build page for CB install and antenna install or check out Benson X's build page for the two most convenient locations.
If you decide on a Midland 75-822, you still need an antenna, but you also NEED to get this accessory. Volume and transmit clarity are greatly improved.

The Superflow MV50s are a tried and true pump, but very slow. You can do a lot of mods to make them faster and more capable, but it's still not the top performer... just depends on budget.
The smittybuilt is the same thing as the MV90, which I have and it's kinda meh compared to out-of-box quality of ARB/VIAIR... then again, I paid much less! As with all Superflow compressors, the gauge on them are worthless. I'm in process of modding mine to add a pressure cutoff switch, and possibly a regulator later on. Parts are ordered, I'll make sure to post up progress!

good for the light and fluffy, but as others are saying, you just about can't beat your grandpa's old wood handled jobber.
    • A full size shovel requires less work to scoop
    • A pointed spade works best for breaking ice, busting clay or mud, and biting into gravel, making it an all-seasons tool
    • it's cheap
    • no one is going to want to steal it

The only thing you can improve is adding a T-handle.

I looked at their facebook page and I think they are closed for the weekend due to weather?
Do they rent? If so, I'm totally going one of these times. I'll putt around on my own and you can check in on me, lol. Of course, you can give me the parking lot behind Macy's and I can make that place intense

That's a really good idea, Mike. It gets really old holding that radio up to my ear to hear anything..

Just remembered that I've got a Kenwood Industrial VHF.. Just tried to use the lapel mic from that, and it instantly keys up my Midland 75-822.

Did notice that this one has a stereo 2.5 mm Jack instead of a single channel like that link you posted.

Might see if I can pull up some wiring diagrams.

Would be awesome, because that Kenwood is a high quality mic.

    Any suggestions??

I have a Uniden Bearcat 880 that a friend gave me new in the box. I planned to use it, but its physically kind of large. I might end up getting a double din dash insert and just installing it under my radio. Unless that's a bad idea?

Edit: Haha, I finally checked the link you provided on your install, it looks good under the radio.

That is the radio that I have - a really do like it - is there something you don't like about it? Always curious!! I mounted mine vertical to the center hump on the passenger side. Does not interfere with anything/one....

No, I didn't mean it like at all. I expect to like it just fine, other Unidens I've had in the past where awesome. I'm just concerned about finding a way to do a clean looking install with it because of it's size.

Not a hater!! I like it - but that might not help your cred!! - I got the box of two -- one for my wife's car and the other I threw in the truck -- I consider it expendable if it needs -- the price was definitely right!!

Jake - no idea on the Midland connections, mine died a few years back. I've seen that exact lapel mike hooked up to the Midland. You better have the volume way down when you first try it out, the sucker is LOUD.

boatracer - not sure if the Bearcat will fit. The biggest determining factor is the height of the unit. Mine fits with maybe a 1/4" gap on the top??
Depth comes next, don't get anything deeper than what a double DIN stereo measures for depth.

Beavis - just letting you know what to look out for! Lots of guys go spending big bucks on shovels where they don't have to (I even had one guy ask me what type of lock I was getting for my shovel - damn bro, it's $8, I'm sad for the guy who thinks he needs to take it from me)

Oh, and here's my mod page for the MV90

OK, no more TW - I need to actually get one of these FEMA tests done tonight :help:

My shovel is about $10. But the lock I wanted to deter people from using my own shovel to break into my truck.

Small wood shove from hardware store. Taped off the gray area and plasti dipped sprayed the wood. Took tape off. Then I had a spare bracket from the loc rac Hi Lift jack mounting kit and it was a perfect fit for the shovel. Loc rac comes with the lock and key with thumb screw.

    1. Shovels stay in my garage until I am going to use them, then toss it like I don't care about it into the bed of my truck. On my trip to Spokanistan this weekend, I threw in a wood long handled shovel with a steel flat head on it. Works great for scooping a track a little wider than my tires, and I'm not afraid to chip at ice with it.

    2. Who did I pass on i90 westbound yesterday? About milepost 37 @4:45 PM. Green, I think DCLB, definitely aftermarket front bumper, and a color matched canopy. Didn't look like there was a winch on it yet. I thought it may have been BensonX.

I might need to regear my truck after putting those 33" tires. Anyone regeared their truck yet? I'm barely making 250 miles on my tank of gas, down from 340 miles.
