Pro and cons(if any)

I am in the market for another used tacoma. I am looking at double cabs in short and reg bed. 4x4 and non. Are their any pro or cons to each specific model. Also,is there a more desirable year to look for when shopping used?

From what I got in the op....you're looking for a 6lug double cab, and that's your only parameter....?

 

Personally i'd go 4x4 (better resale, and you have it if you need it), TRD sport package, and 06 or newer.

Short bed is much easier to park and maneuver in citys.

Also, if I were buying a truck I wouldn't get 09 or newer

 

I love my DCSB. only real con i have found is some stuff does not fit as good in the 5’ bed vs the 6’ bed. but usually all i have to do is put it corner to corner. I have had tones of stuff in the bed! imho you just got to know how to pack stuff into the bed. also you can use back seat if you don’t have anyone back there. I have never really wished i had a long bed(reg bed imo 6”) 1 time it would have been nice but was not needed at all, just rearranged stuff and made it all fit.


imo if your not hauling a lot of stuff every day or every other day the 5' is just fine.

 

What's wrong with 05'? I personally like the true LSD offered in the early sport, which I believe ended in 07'(Or 09').

 

I have the short with DC and like it much better then the long bed. I have a utility trailer if I need to haul anything longer. Besides the long bed wouldn't fit in my garage.

 

they haul LESS weight. i think it’s like 200 maybe 300# less. the drive train and everything is the same, and when you put a bigger/heavier truck on it, it takes away from what it can haul or tow. I think the AC can haul a little bit more than the DCSB, but could be wrong.

 

I believe that the 05's have weak motor mounts.
Yes, the mechanical LSD ended in 09, that's why I wouldn't buy newer than 08

 

Op not trying to sway you from that truck but I paid 17.5K for my 10 pre runner sr5 dcsb with 22k almost 23k on it. Mine was bone stock. And had all the service records as well as the previous owners contact info on it

4x4! better resale value and that 1 or 2 times you might wish you had it if you don't get it.

I would say the LB can haul more weight. The axle is centered on the LB and you would want to center the load on the axle. The SB the axle is towards the front of the bed. You can't center the load over the axle.

 

The payload rating of the long bed is LESS than the short bed, not more.

From what I have read on Toyota's site it has nothing to do with the size of bed.

I was 100% sure I remember DCSB having higher payload than DCLB and that would make sense to me as DCLB has more frame and bed therefore it is slightly heavier which would subtract more from GVWR. I just looked at the website and they are listed as same for payload (1050). AC has more payload (1150) and RC has the most (1200) according to Toyota Canada.

My 07 has 1200lbs on my door jamb though.

 

When I bought it had to be a 2009 or newer. The star safety systems that people like to bitch about hands down raised the performance of these trucks in wrecks. I put my kids in the back so it was a must. Pre 2009 the Tacoma is average in most wreck situations especially for the passenger which was below average. Post 2009 it's a 4 or 5 out of 5 stars.

^this. And unless you designate it as a "work truck" there's not many times a 5' bed won't do. I have a '08 DCSB that works great in the city and out in the woods.
