About that 1st Generation recall...... were changes performed in the 2nd Generation?

I think the move Toyota made giving first Generation owners 150% of retail value for their truck (via buyback) was a HUGE corporate good karma maneuver. What other vehicle manufacturer has done something so bold? They recognized a problem that wasn't addressed early in their build out and are voluntarily (not court ordered) doing the right thing today.

That makes me think, what has Toyota done differently for the 2nd Generation? Word on the street is if the dealer can stick a finger through the frame it's rusted and you get 150% of retail value. Did they take extra steps rust-proofing the current generation or will this be an issue down the road?

Word is getting out. I've been seeing classified adds looking for 95.5-2000 model year Tacomas with frame rust issues. People want to make a buck off of other's misfortune.

 

^There's no way that would work. Toyota can't be that stupid to cover one that the original owner isn't in possession of.

 

What would it matter who was in possesion of the truck? It would be a one time thing per truck. Toyota wouldn't lose anymore money if it was the original owner or not.

 

These trucks are well past the warranty period and the person who put the initial investment into the truck should be the one benefitting. That is typically how manufacturers handle such things. I fail to see how someone in the secondary market would have any right to this. But, maybe Toyota would cover it. Anybody have a link to the recall info?

I don't see how Toyota would or should care about how many owners there have been of the vehicle? What's the differnece if the original owner or the 10th owner of the vehicle has a rust problem? Toyota is giving money back to the current owner regardless of how many miles or owners. And tough shit to the original owner for selling the truck. Why shouldn't a secondary owner benefit from something like this?
