Installed: Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags

Hmm... I didn't know anything about having to replace u bolts after loosening them! That's what I did. I wasn't about to sit there hacking through bump stops when it was so easy to just loosen the U bolts and remove them entirely. Done in like one minute per side. I just retightened them.

I bought a set of Ride Rites from Amazon 3 months ago, same problem. If I were you I wouldn't count on Amazon solving your problem. I called Firestone, and it ended up taking a week to receive the correct fittings they sent by "snail mail".

I couldn't wait that long...

Instead, I went to a local auto parts store and bought brass reducer fittings. Even though using them raised the fitting on top of the airbag higher, there is plenty of room up there and everything worked perfectly!

Does it really matter? I just ordered the 4 wheel drive ones today. I have a 4 wheel drive and just want to make sure I wasnt missing something. Or does Amazon have the wrong picture?

I you have no lift, read the previous note about the psi and the rake your truck will have. Bottoming out the bags will really kill them fast.

 

Thanks, I hope I get the right parts. I have very limited time. I do not have a lift. The only thing I had done was TSB for the leaf spring and thats it.

This might be a hard question, but is there a local store that might have the part if Amazon screwed up?

When I said lift I should have said lift kit. I have the Toytec Ultimate 3". I used the factory jack and wood blocks on a driveway, took a few hours. As for fittings you might try a NAPA or other parts store. If you venture down the adapter road via a home depot (1/8 to 1/4 adapter and close nipple in brass) use lots of the blue thread tape and tighten it to ridunk before putting the bag in place.

 

The only thing I have seen people talk about being screwed up is the air fitting. Mine was fine. But you could hit up a truck stop if you have any problems. They are common air fittings.

 

I got it on Friday. I was missing 3 of the 4 zinc coated bolts. (I think they are zinc) I just went to Home Depot and got what I needed.
Other then that the install went pretty smooth. It really was pretty easy to do.

I have a tandem trailer that was loaded. I went and got it weight and it was 4680# The Tacoma did not do to well before the Firestones. Now it has no problem pulling that load.

I went to get an alignment at the dealer today and they basically told me that because the of the airbags it would make it hard to align. Once I add air and change the height it would throw off what they do. They said that the lift on the back changes the dimensions and angles.
My alignment is not bad. The truck will start to veer to the left even if I am the right side of the road. It does not pull but it will veer.

So what do you guys do to base your alignment off of?

 

Its pretty simple,get it aligned with the bags filled to your preferred pressure/ride height.

 

I'm doing that now. It makes me nervous have the dealship work on my truck.

I'll put my two cents in here. If you do not move your axle from your spring pack, I cannot see any real change in alignment or need to re-align. Maybe I'll see a bunch of you saying I'm wrong but.....

Do you have a front end alignment if you are going to be hauling a heavy load a long distance because you are changing the height of the back of your vehicle? I know I never have.

Getting a kit soon for my truck. I have the 5th 1.5" AAL in the rear, would you guys suggest the spacers or no? I would like to just keep the same ride height with no load and obviously keep it from sagging so much under huge load
