Depends on exactly how cold it is or how much ice and snow is on the truck. Generally no less than 5 minutes before I jump in to head to work if it's in the 30's. Today there was a layer of ice frozen all over the truck, so it idled about 10 minutes and the windshield started to melt down pretty well. I did the A/C mod so the compressor won't run when it's on defrost unless I hit the A/C button.

So it looks like I expected, a wide range of procedures. I've always just waited until the idle was <1K RPM, takes a few minutes lately, but it's rarely very cold here. Something won't let me roll with the idle still high.

took all of a minute to do. I recommend you have a jewelers screwdriver handy, or you can snip the wire, or if you're feeling frisky you could mount a small switch and disable/enable whenever you wanted without truly disconnecting the wire.

    back to bone stock.
i dont. i typically reach in and start it..and just load up my crap. the less crap, the shorter the warmup.

i do however, drive very casual in the beginning..i let it warm up while driving slowly and casual.

This. 20-30 sec for the oil to flow through the engine, not attempting to warm it up.

The high idle is for emissions, to warm up the cats quickly. Idle drops to < 1k rpm after the cats have warmed up, not when the engine has warmed up. If you shift into gear (or Drive), the idle drops to normal right away.

Water temp can be misleading, too. The important one is oil temp, but it can take 20-30 min for the oil to reach operating temperature. That's why some people see a white milky deposit under the oil filler cap - the oil doesn't get a chance to warm up in short trips.

This. It usually get about a minute of warming up. Ultra gauge has been reading about 70 degrees engine temp when I go

However long it takes the garage door to close and putt up the streets to the main road about a mile or so away. In other words, I don't particularly wait for it to warm up, but I'm not putting the truck under heavy loads either before it's warmed up.

Edit: It does not get brutally cold or stay severely cold in my 'neck of the woods too often.

If I don't have time to let it run while I go back in the house, I'll do like some other have said, let it warm up for a few and then limp down my back country road at a low RPM before I hop on the interstate
