I toasted my first one. I bought a gently used one from a stock rear ended truck. Then I got an autozone one. Got a year out of it but it has a lifetime warranty. They don't like being wheeled.

What kind of wheeling are you doing to go through so many steering racks? Haha

I think it was the frequency of trips. I try to turn the wheel only when moving but they still seem to wear out anyway.

Sounds like bad luck to me. My truck has been through a few couple tough spots here and there and is still on the original rack. I do need to replace the tie rods though...

There was a good stretch of time I was going every other weekend wheeling some of the tougher trails in new England. It definatly took its toll on the whole truck.

And......any feedback on them? I'm considering some of the same ones but with black housings since my stock ones are fogged beyond repair.

Those are on my list also. Along with LBJs. Driver's outer and the passenger inner have some movement.

Attempted and failed to tow out my coworkers FJ from the ditch. Someone ran hi off the road and he was buried pretty good. I just didn't have enough weight to yank him out.

Now I have a high pitched squeal coming from under my truck. It changes with the speed of the truck and has gotten louder throughout the day. Not sure what it is yet, but my dads f350 had a bad carrier bearing that did the same thing so I'm thinking that may be it.

This x2. Would love to change it out but then have to do something with the turn signal again.

I replaced my stock rack with 140k miles on it with a Napa reman'd unit.

The rack was an exact match to my OEM, and it's been going 4k miles strong so far. Havent wheeled it/abused it yet but with the warranty etc. i'm happy with the purchase. Just make sure you open the box at the store, my rack had come loose from the mounting points in the box and the hard lines were pretty beat up, they didn't mind that i swapped my 'good' lines over to the reman'd unit but just to CYA...

Check it for play (this vid has too much, cb is dead):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtBHKHGa8Fo
    and install:
    www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/260283-how-replacing-carrier-bearing.html

When i did mine, i was getting clunks and an occasional squeal, the carrier fell apart when i took the shafts off due to how worn it was. I also had a shot U-joint that i think accelerated the death of my CB.
