One last Christmas party to go to, for my extended family. Then we can be done with Christmas parties for the year. But, my Family party is a lot more fun than her family party. They're all pretty frosty to each other. And no booze.
We all like each other, and we usually have a pot of Glogg going on the stove, in addition to whatever other random alcohols are given as part of the Yankee Swap.
Basically, my family is a bunch of rowdy happy drunks at parties. :D

    Psh. Slacker.
I have a detailed chart of Alex's family tree hung on my cubicle wall at work, with notations on possible future additions, just in case I have to reference it.

Seriously, though, I had no idea who the hell he was talking about either. But, I'm cut off from society in the frozen great white North...

Fixing the f-ing truck. My e brake locked up so I need to pull the drum and figure out what happened... I fiddled with it and it released but locked up again as I was driving away. Very weird.
    Apparently so do I

That sucks . When I broke my ring and pinion my ebrake froze up and pretty much destroyed my rear brakes . I just replaced everything . The rear brakes are pretty cheap . I don't use the ebrake at all now .

Damn if I recall exactly, but there's an adjuster or something on one of the drums that is problematic..I believe the Rav4 is the same design.

That's my fix..I used it once right when I bought it just to make sure it worked before I drove off the dealer's lot.

Lovely... Problem is I'm out in NY and wasn't exactly prepared for this. Fortunately I have my dad's heated garage at my disposal but no parts. I have everything torn apart and I can't see anything wrong. What concerns me is it engaged itself after it released all by itself. I would hate for that to happen while I'm on the road.
I'll check that out. Might just disable the fin thing for now and rebuild it later like John said.

I almost think it's on the driver's side. Please don't take that as gospel, but I'm pretty sure that's where my brother in law mentioned. 50-50 shot but hope it saves taking the other side apart.

Not sure if it is what you did prior, but I had a frozen cable on my 77 Chevy..just used Vise Grips to pull the wire back and that was all I needed. There's always cutting the cable too but I'd not be doing that if you don't know for sure.

I thought you're supposed to set this on a regular basis to 1)keep it operating properly and 2) keep the brakes properly adjusted. (?)

It's definitely the drivers side. The cable is frozen. I was at a car wash, threw it in neutral to wait with the park brake on and it wouldn't release. I finally got it to release, went through the wash and, when I was pulling out, it locked up. Drivers side locked up and the passenger side spun. I went from drive to reverse a couple times and it freed up and released. It's been fine since then but I really don't want it to do that while it's driving. I don't know what caused it to lock up on its own when leaving the wash.

Probably are but this is the first time I've had the drums off  they came right off with the jack bolts and both the shoes and the drums look brand new!

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Love my Milwaukee tools, sick of buying batteries. I've worked mine hard, great stuff, just chew up the rechargeable batteries.

I believe they automatically adjust with regular use, not necessarily the application of the parking brake. But engaging it every once in awhile is a good idea.
