    Yes, LSD, Limited slip diff. It automatically engages when one wheel spins, the braking system applies pressure to that side, which engages the clutch pack in carrier to give to that wheel. That's what LSD is. So, yes it mechanical with aid, of braking system.

    This. There are no clutch packs with automated LSD.

    OP: You need to tell the dealer that they either prove to you that your lift caused the diff to break, or they fix it.

    Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    like the others have said, you have an auto lsd...the same that i have on my 09 sport. the 2005-2008 sports came with a mechanical lsd that uses the clutch packs. yours (and mine) use the brakes to simulate an lsd. not the same and will not perform as well as a mechanical lsd.

    5100s (2.5" front), OEM Raptor wheels, 315/70/17 BFGs, Undercover, tint, Weathertechs.
    But your truck doesn't have an LSD, man. The A-LSD system senses tire spin, and simply tells the brake on that side to apply pressure to stop the spinning wheel. It doesn't physically do anything within the differential itself. Like others have said, it hasn't done that since 2009. Hence why every Tacoma (I believe, at least PreRunners and above) has A-LSD. It's simply an electronic system. None of us from 2009 on have a true LSD differential.

    $2000 for all repairs.


    I never drive with the LSD on.


    but the did say that it was the spider gear for the LSD

    ^^exactly. the auto LSD has nothing to do w/ the gears. it's a computerized braking system.

    I'd like to see what costs $2k, and what's actually broken. An assembled 8.4 third costs under $700 from East Coast Gear Supply.
