The fuck, just shy of noon and already posting in the wrong threads? And damn I would take that runner for 1k. Wish I had waited and not bought the sammy...... Something running would have been so much easier.....

All you 3.0 haters are hilarious. Motor is not that bad. I have 308K miles on mine. Maybe a little under powered but it is still a Toyota motor

The motor has its faults, but I wouldn't rule it out as far as buying a project truck. The motor will last, plus it is way easier to swap the 3.4 into a 3.0 truck later down the road.

my buddys 4 runner had the 3.slo. it was a good motor, just slow as shit and dogged on the hills. he also had 33s and was not geared.
his engine would over heat because it would work so hard to turn the 33s up mountains.

I only hate on it cuz the 22re is a more reliable platform and lighter than the 3.slo. Always wanted to put the stroked LCE in my 1990. Never had the 4k they wanted for it though.....:(

I can not get my truck to get even the slightest past half way on the temp gauge. Even in the middle of summer with stop and go traffic or out wheeling. Might have other issues. The did have an issue with head gaskets.

More so with the 3.slo than the 22re's. RE's also had more deck to mill down than the 3.slos when this did happen. Been there done did it 5 thousands out:(. Thought it was raining, my lower coolant hose had busted, had a bad temp gauge that my ol'man had told me to replace for months, and was spraying all over my arms:mad:

22re FTW!! I had an 85 with 35's, 529's and a marlin box.. that 22re never had an issue..

Hell my cousin has a 22re in his rock buggy with Dana 70's and 42's.. climbs like a champ. Granted, it gets trailered to the trails..

This is why I grabbed the 2RZ for my SAMI project. Less vacuum lines to worry about. Plenty of grunt out of the twin cam and options for added power down the road. Wanna roll 35-37's get at least 20 at each corner out of 14" airs and be able to drive it to and from the trail head.

Sounds pretty achievable.. He is running airs in the front now, and is considering doing the rear, but waffles back and fourth because it already works so good that he doesn't want to screw anything up.. When he first built this, he use to drive it on the road all the time, but the windshield has sense been removed, and he is currently running water in his tires vs. air-----gets a little wobbly at speed..

He has replaced his head with an LC head though, and is running headers and a few other engine mods..

Interesting, water. I plan on using the rubber BB's to balance. The FOX airs I got will be good for crawling and washes, she wont be a dune jumper or woop smasher though..... Been looking at those ORI's though, would conquer the woops and still uses air charging.....:woot: the price tag just kills me though.
