Has anyone ran dual exhausts with the 2.7?
I personally think dual exhausts look cool on trucks. I was wondering if theres a good way to run dual exhausts on our little 4 bangers. Since its only a 4 cylider and not a v8, i was thinking I would just run a single exit muffler with a y pipe out the back. The thing im stuck up on, is what size pipe to use out the back. Since it would essentially have twice the amount of air flow out the back, Im assuming I would lose backend pressure. would running smaller maybe 2in pipe help that?

I dont know much about exhaust so any advice would be appreciated.

Save the spare and install a dummy exhaust tip on the left side.

Im removing the spare tire anyways to make a rear tire carrier. And Id rather not have a dummy exhaust tip, I would get so much crap from my friends

I read that the dual exit mufflers dont work well with 4 cylinders because of too little back pressure. which is why nobody runs dual exhausts. the only way i can think to make it work would be to run smaller pipe after the muffler.

Your friends are gonna give you crap for a dual exhaust 4-banger anyway.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.

Even a single exhaust on a 2.7 that's larger than the stock 2 3/8" OD pipe doesn't work as well. I ran a single out the rear bumper...

Right now i have my exhaust dumped right after the muffler, so i figure almost any size pipe i add after the muffler will create more back pressure than what i have now.

and your setup is super cool. I almost thought about doing that after seeing your picture awhile ago.

It's ok to cut the pipe after the stock muffler as it still creates enough backpressure. My last setup was cut just behind the rear axle, and it worked fine.

I would have loved to do duals, but it wouldn't work. It took a really talented muffler guy with a mandrel bender to do it right so that nothing hit or rattled, as the clearances were really tight. I had him run slightly smaller 2 1/4" OD for the tail pipe to compensate for the straight through MagnaFlow muffler.

Gotcha, well with my spare tire gone im guessing ill have a lot more room. Im confident that I can put duals on. Im just not sure if they will perform decent enough

Yeah, that's a question mark. But think of it this way, you can be the first one to try and can let everyone else know how it goes. If I was going to go that route, I'd go with 1.5 inch pipe since there are two of them.

A more open exhaust isn't all negative, as you are likely to gain something on the top end for what you give up at the bottom. I just couldn't afford to do that because my Taco is a fully loaded daily driver work truck, and I do a lot of first gear driving up and down steep winding roads. So I need all the low end I can get. With the long tube header, intake manifold spacer, and reasonably sized exhaust, my engine pulls like a tractor while being highly resistant to stalling at very low rpms.

    Thanks. :)
Got them off ebay. The "2.7" is generic and available for different size engines. This is a 1.5 on my wife's car.

...and the "5 speed" is from a 1980's Ford Mustang.

True that, Im just gonna ditch my crappy flowmaster raptor 30 dollar exhaust and get maybe a 2525 aero turbine muffler. And if I still have an itch for dual exhaust ill worry about it then.

That's not a bad idea. You could always retrofit duals later. I'd also listen to some YouTube videos so you can get a good idea of what the Aero sounds like with a 4 banger. Also take a look at the Aero 2525 XL. It has a resonator built into it.
