Met some Tacoma people out at Barstow this weekend.
Got a ride in a class 1 car through some brutal sections of Barstow with a not scared driver, pretty scary for me, ha!

I don't have an old 84-88 cab anymore but I do have a pair of doors from it sitting im my yard that I don't want if Desert Guy needs them.

That's basically exactly how my truss is done. Your weld lines are 180* opposed (top and bottom) so there's no need to preload the axle to counter warping like the trusses that are on the backside of the axle.

I'm sure you would save some shop hours going that route. I don't plan on trussing the stock axle, I will truss whatever axle replaces mine. Probably a Sequoia axle.

Awesome, warping the axle was my main concern. Is that rear truss piece enough or should the front of the housing have one too?
Don't you worry, i got something for ya..but you'll have to wait and see;)
Nice I didn't know sequoia axles were compatible. I already have 488s and a tru trac so ill probably stick to a stock axle and truss it so i can keep those components. Thanks!

The sequoia axle is 3" wider per side and a direct fit. 8" rear just like ours. My gears and ARB will pulled and bolted right in next week. Also it comes with disc brakes.

How much did the sequoia axel run you? How does it compare cost wise to swapping in a 9 inch

6" wider compared to what? A second gen axle? So it's 71" WMS-WMS?

Yeah.. Just did some quick browsing around, I didn't find anything that was specifically listed as WMS-WMS numbers, but it would appear that the 1st gen sequoia is running the exact same rear end as the 1st gen Tundra with a 66" WMS-WMS and the 2nd gens have the 5 lug rear ends that I think have 68" WMS-WMS and I would guess is the same rear end as the 2nd gen Tundras...

Stand corrected. James (the owner) said he has to grind something and re-machine part of the axle for it to work on his e-locker.

    ^ Yup

Not saying they are wrong because I've never measured, just hard to believe considering Toyota is far from creative when it comes to reusing parts across their platforms. If it's a 1st gen sequoia axle, my bet is its 1" wider TOTAL when compared to a second gen Tacoma, but 6" wider when compared to a first gen Tacoma axle.

I go see my inlaws mid next month and they have a first gen Sequoia. I certainly can take time to avoid conversation and family time with them and go outside for "a while" to measure.
