What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yeah...I see what you talking about but, I probably wouldn't change back to a Hawse type Fairland until I buy a synthetic rope. It doesn't bother me but, the warn was chipping and rusting the first day I used it so it had to go.

the only thing i hate about the roller fairlead on my TG bumper is you can't use the recover hitch if you needed to.

 

it all depends on the situation. If have nothing better to do or if i come up to someone whos stuck ill pull fo free, but if i dont wanna go and its far ill just ask for gas money. and of course if my equipment fails while recovering its going on there tab.

 

Got this bad boy today, first impression, it looks like really high quality I'm glad they gave me the bolts, looks like it can take some serious abuse!!! genna get it painted up tomorrow hopefully it mounts up ok, not sure what color to paint it..
Can't wait for the tranny skid still on its way!!

Got the Ultra Gauge today.
Never had to take a test before to get a rebate
Seems to work just fine, fairly intuitive, I still have some calibration to do and set up the screens.

Question: can I assume that whatever gauge choices are given in the menu are actually the sensors the UG has found during it's scan? So I can choose any of the gauge options offered for my screens and they will work?
Edit: I found the user manual, so never mind on that question.

Also, since some of you guys have been doing this longer, what gauges have you found to be the most helpful?

 

I've had mine for a couple months and just recently calibrated for distance traveled, mpg... Etc. It seems more accurate now, especially with bigger tires now I can see how fast I'm going.

 

test fit my Bud Built IFS skid today. Had to cut and weld front mount to clear bumper. Just need to sand it down and hit it with some Berliner.

 

Got it mainly to keep tabs on mpg. Works great for that. I have the 'Avg MPG', 'Instantaneous MPG' and 'Avg MPH' on the first screen

My SR5 base model didn't come with a tach or tripometer, so the RPMS and 'trip distance' functions are very handy. Also, I really like monitoring the TPS signal. If the TPS ever fails, I'll know immediately since I know how it behaves. Those additional 3 items are also on the first screen.

How does it adapt to tire size? I haven't had much time to play with it, in the menu settings maybe?

I was interested in mpg and actual coolant temp, fuel level, I was hoping for an oil pressure gauge, doesn't seem to support that.

As for calculating for your tire circumference difference, I just input my stock and new tire size into the tire calculator and it gave me my number for the difference, which was 7.9%

nothing personal but that tells you almost everything a stock cluster tells you. Put something cool on there

 

Only thing on there that is repetitive is the RPM's. My MPH is correct on the ultragauge, plus my gas gauge doesn't work anymore either.

 

My gas gauge is sketchy too, moves around at will.

Yeah, mine goes down to half a tank after about 40-50 miles and then stays there. Don't feel like replacing the floater since I have my ultragauge haha

Although I'm not sure if it's the floater or the wiring since as soon as my ultragauge shows about 60 miles until empty, my gas light comes on like it should...

 

Mine shows accurate for the first quarter and the last quarter tank, or I think it does. It's in between that the needle moves around randomly. I always fill up around 150-200 miles cause I don't trust it.

So on the subject of oil pressure gauges, anybody ever done one? I just need to know where a good spot is for the oil line, I'll probably use a mechanical unit as that's what I'm used too...

I took how many miles my trip meter showed. Say 300. And multiplied by 107.9% to add in the difference in tire size. And then used that as my calculated true distance.


Calibrate Distance
MENU > Vehicle Setup .. > Calibration.. > Calibrate Distance
Use this menu item to calibrate all Distance Gauges. This calibration also directly affects the accuracy of all Speed, MPG and
DTE gauges. This calibration is especially necessary for vehicles which no longer have the stock wheels, tire sizes,
transmission, or rear-end differential. This calibration will also compensate for inaccuracies in stock speed sensor and the
vehicle’s distance measurement system. Perform this Calibration prior to all other calibrations.

**** Calibration cannot be performed unless a distance of at least 4 Kilometers or 2.5 miles have been driven. ****

To perform the distance calibration follow this procedure:
1. Align front tire with first mile marker
2. Reset the trip gauges: MENU > Gauge Menu > Zero All Trip
3. EXIT THE MENU
4. Travel to the 3rd mile marker (at 50+MPH), aligning the front tire to the mile marker
5. Select: Menu > Vehicle Setup > Calibration > Calibrate Distance
6. Change the value shown to 3.000 miles*, using the UP and DOWN keys
7. Press Menu to save and set the calibration
Once saved, the calibration factor will be displayed at the bottom of the display
